blurry Posted June 11, 2015 #1 Share Posted June 11, 2015 (edited) This thread is for discussing possible relations between ASMR and Astral projection and sharing personal experiences & viewpoints on the subject. "Does ASMR influence AP? Is ASMR a feasible method/tool for inducing AP? Is there even a correlation between the two?" Any content will greatly be appreciated, thanks! ----------------------------- Here's my experience that began this trail of thought. Six months ago I have begun to frequently meditate and attempt astral projection. I Have not had a complete OOB (yet), though a few hallucinatory experiences have intrigued me enough to keep trying. Three weeks ago I stumbled upon ASMR-inducing "artists" on YouTube. (For those who don't know: ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. In short, it's that 'tingly relaxing' feeling one gets when they get a nice back or scalp scratch/massage. Often certain sounds can trigger that feeling. Did I mention it's relaxing?) So lately, I'd put headphones on and listen to ASMR-tists while lying on bed in the evening. One day, approximately ten minutes after the audio ended I felt something building up. Here I was thinking, "Oh, this might be the vibrational stage that people keep about." And before I knew it came THE FORCE OF A THOUSAND SUNS LIKE HOLY CRAB GIANT INFANT USES EARTH AS RATTLER vibrations. Sweating like a pig, my heart nearly jumping out of my chest. I hold on to the bed frame as I think "Woah, woah.". The feeling dies down and I slowly get up. -Also it's worth noting that I haven't experienced 'vibrations' before listening to ASMR. Whether this is a coincidence or not I don't know. Edited June 11, 2015 by blurry
preacherman76 Posted June 11, 2015 #2 Share Posted June 11, 2015 I have never heard of ASMR before, so I couldn't say one way or another if its related to AP. Did you try to exit when you felt the vibrations? The first time I felt the really strong vibs, it was pretty easy to get out.

blurry Posted June 12, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted June 12, 2015 (edited) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autonomous_sensory_meridian_response I glanced it over and still have no idea what its talking about. Speaking from my own experience, ASMR feels like a nice back/scalp scratch. When listening to certain ambient sounds through headphones that feeling gets 'triggered' for me as well. (Hence "Autonomous") There are hundreds of videos on YouTube dedicated to triggering asmr, however there is a great lack in evidence of general benefits/harms. All anecdotes vary, with different people having different triggers. I have never heard of ASMR before, so I couldn't say one way or another if its related to AP. Did you try to exit when you felt the vibrations? The first time I felt the really strong vibs, it was pretty easy to get out. I got caught off guard. I wasn't attempting to project that time and got excited. When it happens again I'll know to focus. Edited June 12, 2015 by blurry
travelnjones Posted June 12, 2015 #5 Share Posted June 12, 2015 I have seen videos that say ASMR roleplaying and I usually think WTF! They don't have dice or character sheets, Gary Gygax is going to be p***ed!
White Crane Feather Posted June 18, 2015 #6 Share Posted June 18, 2015 (edited) I don't know what ASMR is but anything to help you relax theoretically would help you achieve an altered state. My kids know if they tickle my feet I will basically fall asleep in five minutes. If they are watching something on television and know im about to put them to bed, they will try to get me to fall asleep before their bed time so they can keep watching. Funny enough it's fairly efective. Edited June 18, 2015 by White Crane Feather
