[Merged] Was this a supernatural event?

So, do you guys believe in ghosts? Well after you hear this story you just might. In 2011 I bought this car for 5000, it had seen better days for sure, and it was missing plenty of parts. From the moment I brought It home however it gave m

e bad vibes. Everything that possibly could go wrong with it did, and it had a ton of phantom problems that I still deal with to this day and every once in awhile I hear what almost sounds like screaming and the song "Sleep Talk" coming from the radio. Feeling this to be odd even though this is an older car, I decided to look up a lil bit of history in this car and it's license plate number. When I looked up the number in the county records I found an old murder case from November 17, 1963. Apparently the car was owned by a Mr. John Smith and his family. It was bought in October of that year and after only a month of ownership the family was brutally murdered by an escaped asylum patient and the car was found ditched on highway 1. After several years in the police impound it was sold on auction. Following it's sales records I discovered every owner of the car suffered a bankruptcy or other tragedy such as the death of pets or divorce, even a mysterious heart attack or two.

What do I think of this curse? I can't say, but whenever I turn on the radio and hear the silent whispery screams and the notes of sleepwalk play through my speaker grills I have a strange feeling the curse may be real.

Was this a supernatural event?

One day I discovered an abandoned 1964 Impala in someone's garage, I asked the owner of the house about it and she said it belonged to her husband, she said he died in it one day and decided to let me buy it. When I got home I decided to get it started which oddly it did even though it hadn't been started in a good 15 years. (The last time she said she drove it). Driving down Highway 1 in California I noticed that all of a sudden after I turned a corner that all the road signs were very old (they hadn't used that design in 40 years) and I was being passed by cars that were at least made in 1964. I was hesitant to believe anything was out of the ordinary until I saw two groups of teenagers, one on a Harley with his girlfriend on her back and the other in a 1963 Impala racing each other around the curves in what appeared to be old cheerleader outfits (for the girls) and leather jackets and lettermen jackets for the boys, when I looked down the instrument panel and interior was brand new looking and when I looked up a 1960s era Semi truck came colliding in me. At the moment of impact I woke up. Thinking it was a dream I went over to the car and was horrified to see the odometer changed. Do you think this car is haunted?

Also if I were to jump out would I get to stay in 1964?

Any thoughts on the curse?

Is this a different car than the one mentioned in your other post about "Is this a supernatural event"? You seem to come into possession of a lot of strangely afflicted vehicles, if not.

I don't see any mention in your original post about a pre-existing curse, only in your closing sentence which asserts a possible curse. You are presenting the following information:

a car from the 1960s has been owned by people affected by: murder, bankruptcy, pet death, divorce, heart attack

the radio in the car plays (according to you only, so far) odd music and possibly "ghostly" whispering voices

Pet death, bankruptcies, divorce and heart attacks (mysterious or otherwise) are sadly, extremely common events, especially is simply associated with car-owners since the 1960s. This really only leaves murder as an outlier, probability-wise, but even it is not THAT uncommon. There is a reason the word coincidence exists - because unlikely events or facts coincide, no matter how seemingly improbable.

The key is not to look at how unlikely it is for any negative event to be connected to a car, or even which specific ones are, but how likely EACH event in itself would be, and then how likely numerous events would be, to be associated with the car. Alternately, maybe it is blessed. How many time-proven, lasting, loving relationships were born or maintined in that car, or how many time has it had "Just married" signs hanging off of it? How many mothers were rushed to the hospital to bring a new life into the world, or even how many babies might have been born IN the car? How many delicious meals, or how many trips to life-changing performances or personal events, has that car driven to? How many jobs has that car driven to by dedicated, successful owners; jobs that perhaps changed a number of lives for the better...

Your brain playing tricks on you.. Now a proud owner of the 1964 Impala , you now wonder what it would have been like back 40 years. You want it so bad (to be back in 1960's), that your brain will fit in with what you are seeing..

You see kids, and your brain converges it to kids 40 years back, cars too, you see two cars speed. but the brain responds as if them two cars were racing.... and so on etc

or you had a dream

Good grief - there are so many ludicrous holes in that story that surely no-one (including the author..) could possibly believe it. NOTE his other post which just also happens to be about the same 1964 Impala, yet there is nothing similar in the stories - was the lady he bought it from (see other post) telling lies?

Do I really need to point all the silliness out? Re read the story and think about how *you* would/could have gone about the alleged research he did via a license number, on a car he hasn't even shown a picture of, that involves a 'John Smith', and not a single link or cite to any of the alleged events. When combined with the other post - which is equally hole-ridden, I suggest readers beware..

MrBR, can you explain why these stories of yours both involve a 64 Impala, yet are totally different? And just what County was this that lets you investigate a car's history (including bankruptcies, divorces and pet deaths....) - I think some administrators have some 'splaining to do.

Anyway, Mr, feel free to post some evidence of all this. Given you still have the car, show us some pics, and a recording of that song you keep hearing. And what were the names (other than 'John Smith') involved in this murder case, so we can look it up?

I don't believe in ghosts, but I do believe in trolls.

Im glad over here in Australia someone cant just buy a car and use previous sales records to look up so much pesonal imformation about the previous owners, Health troubles, Bankruptcy, Divorce are all pretty personal types of imformation. Your detective skills must be pretty good.

This story is ripped off the plot of one of the three segments of 70s tv movie "Dead of Night" A guy finds an abandoned car in somebody's garage and after taking it for a drive finds he has seemingly gone back in time

Yeah, I still don't believe in ghosts after reading that story.

Did you really think you were going to make believers of people with that tall tale?

First off... Welcome to UM :st Hope you stick around a while and have fun while you are here.

Now, onto the thread itself.

Many holes in this story.

"Sleep Talk" was first recorded in 1973 by Ohio Players. About a decade too late for a 1964 haunt.

You don't track a car's history by license plate number- you do it by VIN. While an extremely diligent person might be able to track some title transfers, the DMV does not release license plate information. And even VIN is not always correct, because there are multiple VINs on a car, and so if those parts are replaced or defaced, they can reflect VIN numbers other than the original to the car. There are 5 locations that can hold VIN or partial VIN on a 64 Impala if I am recalling correctly. Note that cowl tag and VIN tags are not usually the same thing.

To my understanding, police wouldn't use the license plate number in tracking a crime, though it might be noted in the records. They use the VIN too. Especially for things like police auctions. They can't title transfer by license plate number.

Being able to track bankruptcies, divorces, pet deaths, and heart attacks via attempting to track title transfer history is just right out.

And a car firing right up after 15 years sitting? Just no. And why on Gods green earth would anyone even try, considering the deterioration of fluids, rubber like hoses and belts, corrosion of metals, potential breakage of things like distributor caps and rotors, plug wires...General dry out of all seals. And the likelihood of rust or other debris in the gas tank all the way to the carb. And car was missing plenty of parts, yet the engine and fuel systems were immaculately intact to just fire it up? Just no.

Oddly enough, I can't find anything about a mass murder in a car in California for November 1963. And just what asylum would this guy have gotten out of?

It's a fun story, good mashup of a few urban legends. But utterly implausible in just random mundane details, let alone paranormal ones.

To watch some old Russ Meyer movies will answer the question.
