Blair Witch Musings

Ok, we all know, that "The Blair Witch Project" was just a movie. Some called it "brilliant filmaking", some thought that they should have just went out and burned thier money, rather than have spent it at the theatre. I personally, thought it was a good premise, but the amount of simple mistakes and follies that those kids got themselves into, was inconcivable. But that's really not what I would like to discuss.

My thoughts are, do you think that possibly, an area could be "haunted", as it was in the movie? Say, for instance, a whole town, or like in the film, an area of wilderness? If so, would you consiter it a ghost, or something else; something bigger?

Your thoughts-Your musings.....

I guess it depends on your take of the movie.

I thought about it and decided that there was nothing paranormal about their foibles and that they were taken advantage of by some psycho rednecks....

No witch. No ghosties. blink.gif

(although it doesn't quite explain the baby crying)

i get a feeling that post towards me was patronizing. There was no need for it alright??

I was agreeing with you. I had no other input to put at this moment. So i decided i'd think about what i wanted to write and then edit my post with it.

Actually, it wasn't patronizing. I feel badly that you took as such.

And as for "clear", I might take that as a little threatning. But I will give you the benifit of the doubt.

If your asking if an area can be haunted, then I would reply yes.

Quick story: there is a location in north east Arizona, on the Navajo Reservation that is called canyon De Chelly (Pronounced de shay) On one arm of the canyon is a smaller canyon called canyon del muerto (Canyon of the dead)

Back when I was stationed at Chinle PHS and being a young handsom sort of fellow, also known as a dekis bellaganna, (Crazy white man) I decided to take a fair young lady on a moonlight stroll along the ridge of the canyon. I had heard rumors of never going out there at night from the local folks, the canyon was haunted.

Again being a bellaganna I didn't believe the superstitions.

To make a short story shorter, I had no sooner stepped out of my truck with my favorite girl that week, when a really weird feeling surrounded me. All I wanted to do was get the heck out of there. I never saw or heard a thing. I just felt something, that to this day I have never felt before, or again. I was talking the next day to a Navajo police officer about what had happened and he laughed, he said even the cops don't go out there at night.

Don't know what it was and I don't care to find out. About two months later I transfered to Nevada.

I can understand, my friend! Sleeping is good, staying up for long periods of time=bad.

I really didn't mean for it to come off that way. In one of my previous threads I had started, the title was completly taken out of context, and people commented on a whole nother issue. lol.

Still loves you, man! No needs to apologize! thumbsup.gifwub.gif

Stillcrazy- Neat story. I've been around that area in AZ before, although I have never gotten out of the vehicle. Wow, next time I'm back home (AZ), I'll have to check it out!

Best directions.

U.S. 191 to Chinle you'll see the signs to Canyon De Chelly National Monument.

When you come to the visitors center there is a fork in the road, one goes towards the south and White House ruins (The Most popular with the tourist) the other heads towards Tsalie (Spelled correctly) Along this road you will see signs for different overlooks, Canyon del muerto is the third, I believe turn off. You'll follow that road about a quarter of a mile to the parking lot. I never got futher than the front of my truck during that night, but in the daytime the view is grand.

If you have read any of my other post you'll know that I am a reasonable person most of the time, and don't get spooked easily. Nor do I put a lot of credence in ghost stories, But there is something there that I don't care to ever feel again.

Best of luck to ya.

P.S. odinsgrl, I grew up in Arizona, and had the Superstitions in my back yard. I've hiked all over that state and those mountains in particular. Say hi to all the fellow Arizonians when you get back there. I miss it a great deal.

Edited for spelling. SC

I'm not sure what to think. Can an area of land or even a whole village be "haunted"? Personally I have never experienced this however have heard and read lots of stories about such incidents.

There is a mountain here in Scotland called Ben Mac Dui which has a reputation for being haunted. People have reported strange experiences which occurred on various different parts of the mountain. Most of these stories are similar in nature - footsteps heard from behind when no one is there, voices heard talking in Gaelic and an incredible sense of foreboding. Every one of these tales end with the witness fleeing from the mountain in fear.

A few years back I read of some unexplained incidents in the local newspaper. As far as I can remember these incidents took place in a village in Fife. There was a row of houses which was plagued by what is best described as paranormal activity. Kettles would switch themselves off and on, when the water boiled within them they would whistle whistling2.gif (these are normal modern kettles we are talking about, not old fashioned whistling ones). The kettles were all from different manufacturers so a design fault can probably be ruled out there. Electrical appliances would break frequently. Some tennants of these houses were going through 4 kettles a month. Could this be classed as a haunted village? I don't know but it's all pretty strange anyways!

Where I grew up, there's a whole county(Bristol) that has a reputation for being haunted. The fact that it's built almost entirely on top of a swamp may have something to do with this. I will say that the area feels a little different than the rest of the State, although that doesn't really mean much, I know..

Just wanted to add that I know the film is fiction - I was just commenting on what my theory was for the plot/story etc...

It still gave me the creeps - those little piles of rocks....

It was the baby screaming and the noises that freaked me out.

I spend a fair amount of time in York and it does have its own special energy - there's no place like it I've been to. Definitely active.

Pluckley - reputed to be the most haunted village in England. Hmmm.

There are plenty of towns that are haunted, many of them were war towns, or indian reservations, and places where groups of people were violently killed. They're filled with restless souls and strong energy.

but for a place which isnt known to have such killings it must be wierd to find so many sightings no?

Yes whole areas can be "haunted" as anyone who has stood on the field in Naseby, Leicestershire, (U.K.) will tell you. this is the site of one of the bloodiest battles of the English civil war. (Cromwell, Roundheads, King Charles II & Parliament in most search engins will give you a better history lesson than I can.)

I've been there as the sun was going down on a warm Summer's evening & I swear I smelt blood and felt the Earth tremble as though horses were charging past. I was stone cold sober, wide awake and with my husband and two girls (4 & 10,at the time), Nigel felt & smelt it too but, THANKFULLY, the girls didn't.

There are other areas where an "atmosphere" can be felt. Most of Cornwall as far as I can tell!!! lol (Any Cornish members, that's ment as an observation, no more!;) Pleases feel free to contridict me, I was only a tourist in your lovely county.)

And as for Wiltshire!!! wacko.gif

Oreo-

Where I live, there's a charming little town within the city that is reputed to be very haunted. Most of the buildings were whore houses, gambling casinos, and bars back in the late 1890's-1920's. Almost every building has some haunted story attached to it.

One of my co-workers and her husband own a restaurant in that little area, and she has reported many accounts of hauntings. Soda hoses would go off on their own. One of her waitresses saw a man and a woman dressed in victorian clothing standing in the front window at night while she was waiting for her b/f to pick her up when the place was shut down. They have a pretty high turn-over rate as you can imagine.

So, yes. I think a house, a town, an area of land can definitely all be haunted by ghosts. Also in that area of town, there are residents that speak of a ghost train that they can hear moving and whistling only during a certain time of the year.
