Being "hunted" in my sleep!?

Hi, well this is my first post, but I really want to know what's going on right now and if anyone could help that'd be great. And sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I put it under modern because it's happening right now. I put quotes around hunted in the title because it feels like something is doing this, but I could be completely wrong.

Well lately, when I sleep I sleep fine with no dreams, but then I feel like I wake up and I'm put in different situations where something's trying to kill me and I feel like if I went back to sleep I'd actually die. It's a really creepy feeling and I just feel like I'm right. It started out as they were months apart, but now I'm having one every time I go to sleep! I just woke up from a nap because I haven't slept in a day and it just happened.

What happens is that I'm in the situation and while something's trying to kill me I get chills and goosebumps all over my body except my face. I can't move at all, and my eyes start closing and I have to really focus and try to wake up while I'm in the situation. I'm going to explain my dreams so far now, from newest to oldest.

My first dream was really creepy somehow, but it didn't feel like it was going to kill me like the other ones. This was about 3 months ago. In my dream, I woke up and I was in my room. I sat up in my bed and a flashlight was levitating over my desk and I was frozen and couldn't move. I can laugh at this now, but because I'm scared of ghosts it was really freaky.

Next was one I had while sleeping in class. It was about 2 months ago. I was asleep then I woke up in a tall tree, where a demented dog-thing with no eyes was running after me and as I was at the end of a tree branch a black hole opened up and I jumped in. This was first when my eyes started closing and I had to open them.

Then about a week ago I was in a dream and I woke up and I imagined hearing creaking from my living room and thought there were skeletons on my couch and around my bed then I couldn't move and my eyes were closing and I felt like if I went to sleep I'd die (again).

The one I just woke up from was simpler, and it was a girl drilling into my stomach, and I felt like I was dying (as with the others) but this time I was unfazed.

Sorry this is so long! But I wanted to make sure I didn't leave out anything. And thanks for reading, I'd really like to know what's going on.

Of course I can't know for sure what the problem is but it sounds like sleep paralysis. Did something happen right before this started that was traumatic, stressful or a big change in your life?

I saw a ghost once and it wasn't scary at all. Not saying it couldn't be just it doesn't have to be.

Not really, 3 of my relatives have died this year from cancer, but I barely knew them so I've been pretty unaffected.

And me too, we were on an old war ship, and my mom took a picture and when we got them processed there were orbs around me and my sister (We were the only ones in the picture though) I think my fear is from being little, my parents watched things like Ghost hunters all the time.

My immediate response to your predicament is that you are experiencing a phenomenon known as sleep paralysis. Hilander mentioned it.

In case you are unfamiliar, sleep paralysis occurs when a person in REM sleep awakens quickly. Sometimes, if the waking is abrupt instead of gradual, the body is still paralyzed. Paralysis of the body when asleep is natural, and is to protect you from acting out your dream. During sleep paralysis, the body is still paralyzed, and the brain still believes it is asleep. Basically, you are dreaming with your eyes open.

Hallmarks of sleep paralysis cases are being frozen (Hence, paralysis) and seeing visions. These visions often take the form of lights, and are usually incredibly intense. A feeling of unease and fear, usually paired with the feeling of an entity in the room, are also common.

As for the photograph with your sister: Orbs are a notoriously unreliable form of "evidence", and easy to explain. Usually dust on the lens, occasionally light reflecting off dust.

From a logical perspective, your experiences are likely a few bad dreams coupled with sleep paralysis. Not at all unusual, roughly 70% of the population has or will experience sleep paralysis. Not much you can do, except try to reduce stress. It may be caused by environmental or lifestyle changes, stress, or excessive drinking before bed.

If you are still worried that you are being hunted by a malign entity, then you may wish to try some things, if only for the psychological value. Sage, especially Common, or Silver Sage, has been used for centuries in a ritual called smudging, where sage leaves are burned. This is believed to rid the location of malign energies. There are numerous stones and herbs believed to ward off evil. Snowflake Obsidian, Black onyx, and iron pyrite are some common ones. If you are religious, then your religion may have some options as well. A crucifix is believed to repel demons, and the pentacle is also a protective symbol.

Finally, some people believe that placing a sprig of the herb rosemary beneath the pillow while you sleep will ward off bad dreams and evil spirits. Rosemary is a medium sized sub-shrub commonly used in cooking, so it may be worth getting a plant.

Reading through the comments above I've realized that I probably suffer from this sleep paralysis. It is exactly as you have described it and incredibly creepy. Sometimes it actually feels like somebody is touching me, and I will even see (or imagine) faces watching me. Any advice on how to fix this? Would be really appreciated

I suffer from sleep paralysis myself and when it first started I thought a demon was tormenting me in my sleep. Now I know otherwise. My advise to you or at least what works for me is to keep the tv on while you sleep or play an audio book. I dont know why it works but it does. I almost never have an attack when I keep the tv on and almost always do when I turn it off.

What...that's exactly the same thing I thought the first time it happened to me  I was around 14 at the time.

@Nerevarine - I'm not sure it's worth trying to make it stop, I'd say just get used to it and it might go away one day. At least that's what happened in my case, now I don't have any problems with it. After some time it stops being scary, just keep your eyes closed and don't try to move, after it stops you can get back to sleep.

Thats funny it started happening to me at around the same age. I wonder if theres something to that. @Nerevarine hes right one of the main things is to not be frightend, dont try and fight it either it just makes it worse. Just stay calm and it will pass in a min.
