A witch's brew link in that article leads to this....follow and fact check yourself, it is "witch's brews" link "witch's brews."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/b****es_Brew

another link Writing in the 16th century, leads to

Either this article is a masterpiece of poorly done journalism or it is farmed out content to independent contractors just making stuff up to get click bait.......

Well, the article is poorly written and somewhat lacking. But the information given is true. That's the origin of the witches being associated with brooms. Any historian and anthropologist will confirm it. Witch's lore is a big deal here in Galicia, and everyone knows about the "óleo da meiga" or witches brew. My family, for example, is in possession of an exemplar of the Ciprianillo, or Book of San Cibrán, one of the most famous grimoires in european history. Our volume is about 300 years old, and was saved from the fire by my grandfather during Franco's dictatorship. In that book, there are a few recipes of witches brew, among other things.

Pretty standard stuff most people who have any knowledge about witchcraft are well aware of. Atropa bella donna had a number of uses, including as a poison.

Is it just me or was that article a hard read?

So basically, its down to drugs, and the broom was used to get "high" and something about witches brew and hairy parts of the body?

Its not news about the poisons in those days, and before. This is how we learned about poisons....because many died. Many people died through eating mushrooms before we knew what was safe to put in our frying pans.

If memory serves (from things I read, not from actually being that old) In Germany, witches were supposed to ride large spoons - the type they would stir cauldrons with...

How fortunate to have such an old book in your family - and the interesting history beind it.

If you are able - you should share some of the recipes - as long as some of the concoctions aren't bat wings, lizard tails or toad eyes.

Then all's good :-*

ok first off they dont ride brooms they use psycho active plant extracts in animal fats rubbed on the skin and they get you high i mean like crazy unpleasant highs, i mean ive never used datura personally but ive seen people who used the datura salve and they got violent fast. normally you wouldnt have a broom around youd have a drum or rattle to help ease you into the trance and someone to kind of watch you once you cross the hedge on flying oinments. now i live in mexico so the plants are different here than what id use in the states here salvia and peyote are used by some practioners as means of crossing the hedge since well ive been all the way to the mercado sonora and couldnt find any henbane or belladonna.

psycho active plant

Cannabis

So basically, drugs. no need to beat around the bush (no pun intended) just get to the point, they are all stoned.

lol yep some do use cannabis then the salves but most prefer to jump right into trance work and use the plants and they are highly toxic and must be used carefully most people dont use henbane belladonna, or mandrake for fun they use them in a spiritual sense and with a responsible person nearby if poisoning occurs now i personally dislike recreational drug use and use salves for serious spiritual work only but to each theyre own :) henbane and belladonna can produce mild visions not at all like tripping on peyote or acid but it all depends on the dosage and size of the person using it

Why do witches ride brooms?

It's cheaper than a car and more fuel efficient.

That and because genies have a copyright on magic carpets.

Hahaha, thanks for the history lesson. I will never be able to see a witch on a broomstick in the same light again

Q: Why did the witch cross the street on her broom?

A: Need I tell you? :--)
