Popular Post Still Waters Posted February 24, 2016 Popular Post #1 Share Posted February 24, 2016 Tantalising news about the 'secret chamber' in Tutankhamun's tomb. "We do not know if the burial chamber is Nefertiti or another woman, but it is full of treasures." - Egypt's Tourism Minister, Hisham Zaazou. It seems that some secrets are too good to keep. Is this a phenomenal leak about what lays beyond the false wall in Tutankhamun's tomb? Is it speculative wishful thinking? Or is this a clever boost for badly-needed tourism? Mr. Zaazou claims that the announcement of what lays inside the secret chamber will be made in April. "It will be a 'Big Bang' - the discovery of the 21st century." http://www.nilemagaz...tankhamuns-tomb

Dark_Grey Posted February 24, 2016 #5 Share Posted February 24, 2016 We are putting astronomical faith in the first people that will lay eyes on the treasure inside that chamber. Let's hope they are as objective and honest as a scientist/archaeologist can be.

And they'll blame Zahi Hawass. Hawass is their favorite whipping boy, the ultimate bogeyman. They're still blaming him left and right, which you can see in discussions here at UM—despite the fact that Hawass was tossed out of his governmental position years ago, no longer has power, and is now a high-priced tour guide.
Harte Posted February 25, 2016 #12 Share Posted February 25, 2016 (edited) Egypt 2016: "...it is full of treasures." - Egypt's Tourism Minister, Hisham Zaazou. India 2002: The site was discovered by chance last year by oceanographers from India's National Institute of Ocean Technology conducting a survey of pollution. PersonFromPorlock Posted February 25, 2016 #13 Share Posted February 25, 2016 (edited) On a more practical note, it wouldn't hurt to put a couple of tanks and a platoon of carefully vetted infantry outside the tomb entrance. ISIS makes no bones about destroying the remnants of 'false' religions, and harming Egypt's tourist business at the same time would just be the cherry on top. Tourists (well, everyone) have to go through metal scanners. In addition, the entrance to the tomb is a good walk in the heat in a very very barren landscape - a dry valley. You have to pass through an outer building set over the entrance to the tomb and then go down inside. While I'm sure that security will be solid and that the general for the army of that area will be there, the chances of anyone involved with Daesh getting inside is zero. You really couldn't park many tanks outside (without damaging the dickens out of various structures and the roads there.) And a tank wouldn't be any sort of tactical advantage. Jarocal Posted February 25, 2016 #17 Share Posted February 25, 2016 It's guarding the geyser. Admit it, you miss the entertainment value logical conclusions of his wild fantasies "out of the box" theories. IMHO anyone who has so conclusively debunked ramps and redefined interpretation of Egyptian Texts (without learning to actually read the glyphs or the language) should be given more of a Main stream media platform to expound on his conclusions. Perhaps teaching some MOOC courses on EDX or Coursera.

khazarkhum Posted February 25, 2016 #20 Share Posted February 25, 2016 (edited) If they are correct and there is a room(s) full of artifacts, there is no choice but to excavate and remove the items. For one thing, breaching the wall introduces modern pollution and insects to a place sealed off from them for 3000 years. Secondly, there are plenty of idiots who will try to blast their way in to harvest those items for the illicit artifact trade. The tomb is underground and the aboveground structure is pretty stout. In addition, there's only one road into the place and it's well guarded by people with shoot-to-kill orders.
