If the announcement were made April 1st, I of course would be skeptical.

We are putting astronomical faith in the first people that will lay eyes on the treasure inside that chamber. Let's hope they are as objective and honest as a scientist/archaeologist can be.

Given the importance and normal procedure there will be a whole gang there.

And Hisham Zaazou on a box or pedestal wildly gesturing like an old-times traffic cop.

Perhaps

There would be conservation folks, recorders, an expert on the language, an expert on that particular site plus their staffs. A rep of the government and SCA. Security folks and the local people responsible for the site.

And a representative sampling of fringies to stand in the back, wave their hands, and proclaim it's all a hoax orchestrated by an unholy union of the Egyptian government and the Nefarious Cabal of Archaeology to hide THE TRUTH from all of us.

But I didn't say that.

Liar, liar pants on fire!

Actually if nothing is found the fringe will say aliens or something was hidden, if something is found the fringe will say aliens or something was hidden, if alien or something are found they will say it is a hoax also.....

And they'll blame Zahi Hawass. Hawass is their favorite whipping boy, the ultimate bogeyman. They're still blaming him left and right, which you can see in discussions here at UM—despite the fact that Hawass was tossed out of his governmental position years ago, no longer has power, and is now a high-priced tour guide.

Egypt 2016:

"...it is full of treasures." - Egypt's Tourism Minister, Hisham Zaazou.

India 2002:

The site was discovered by chance last year by oceanographers from India's National Institute of Ocean Technology conducting a survey of pollution.

On a more practical note, it wouldn't hurt to put a couple of tanks and a platoon of carefully vetted infantry outside the tomb entrance. ISIS makes no bones about destroying the remnants of 'false' religions, and harming Egypt's tourist business at the same time would just be the cherry on top.

I've been there.

Tourists (well, everyone) have to go through metal scanners. In addition, the entrance to the tomb is a good walk in the heat in a very very barren landscape - a dry valley. You have to pass through an outer building set over the entrance to the tomb and then go down inside. While I'm sure that security will be solid and that the general for the army of that area will be there, the chances of anyone involved with Daesh getting inside is zero.

You really couldn't park many tanks outside (without damaging the dickens out of various structures and the roads there.) And a tank wouldn't be any sort of tactical advantage.

It's guarding the geyser.

Admit it, you miss the entertainment value logical conclusions of his wild fantasies "out of the box" theories.

IMHO anyone who has so conclusively debunked ramps and redefined interpretation of Egyptian Texts (without learning to actually read the glyphs or the language) should be given more of a Main stream media platform to expound on his conclusions. Perhaps teaching some MOOC courses on EDX or Coursera.

Unfortunately you need go no further Egypt itself to find extremists that want to demolish the pyramids because they are some sort of pagan symbol or some such nonsense. Those are the folks that make tourism in Egypt a scary affair

Demolishing the pyramids has been tried by some Koranthumpers before, they failed.

If they are correct and there is a room(s) full of artifacts, there is no choice but to excavate and remove the items. For one thing, breaching the wall introduces modern pollution and insects to a place sealed off from them for 3000 years. Secondly, there are plenty of idiots who will try to blast their way in to harvest those items for the illicit artifact trade.

No, the geysers got diverted long ago, now they run the bidet at the nearby toilet block.

It's actually very difficult to do that. The tomb is underground and the aboveground structure is pretty stout. In addition, there's only one road into the place and it's well guarded by people with shoot-to-kill orders.

A guard station is outside:

The number of people who want to do that is far less than the number of people in America willing to vote for Donald Trump.

In fact, it's less than the number of people who want to vote for Ted Cruz.
