This is Mick Ronson of David Bowie's 'Spiders From Mars' backing group.

He makes noises with a guitar that I've never heard anywhere else!

Jump 3 minutes in, if you want the main solo.

John Frusciante

Red Hot Chili Peppers

if you have to ask

Solo at 2:30

Basically, every note John Frusciante plays on Blood, Sugar, Sex Magik is the most amazing solo, In my Opinion.

IMO, Frusciante is the most underrated guitar player I have ever heard. His work on BSSM is ground breaking, especially when considering his age and experience at that point.

How about this one... it gives me goosebumps every time I hear it:

Alter Bridge

Open Your Eyes

Mark Tremonti

3:22-3:56

The thing that is frustrating is that this solo is... it's ****g AMAZING. And on the version that made radio play, and the video version, they cut it in 1/2. They even cut out the GOD DAMNED PICK SLIDE that ends the solo at 3:54. HOW YOU GONNA CUT OUT A PICK SLIDE LIKE THAT?!?!

I'll be honest with you... this is one of 4 songs that will make me openly weep if I'm alone and really listening closely.

They do that to a lot of songs in heavy metal too. Which leaves me generally befuddled, the solo is the corner stone of heavy metal!

Not sure how to imbed vids....off top of my head try:

Santana, "No One To Depend On" and on Supernatural CD, "Smooth." (Best guitar player alive, IMO)

Also my favorite Metallica is 'The God That Failed' on Blk Album

Jimi Hendrix, "Red House"...."Manic Depression" :w00t:

Jimmy Page on LZ 3, "Since I've been lovin You" great work thru out this song. :tu:

SRV "Tin Pan Alley"...."Texas Flood".....I wish I had 25% of his talent/ability. :nw:

Randy Rhodes, (w/Ozzie) "Mr. Crowely" and like above too many others to list. :tu:

Alvin Lee of 10 Years After, "I Woke Up This Morning" (One of the fastest ever.)

While I think that the title "Best Guitar Solo" is a bit subjective and everyone will have their own idea which is the best..

This guy is about as good as it gets...

Dick Dale

"Misirilou"

"Nitro"

Not bad for a dude who's 76 years old...

So true Taun, each person has their own idea.

Honorable mention for Eric Clapton...if you like blues try CD 'From The Cradle'....song., "5 Long Years" and others.

Blue Oyster Cult's 'Godzilla'....for the entire song.

Also, check out player 'Buckethead' on Youtube....awesome tap-on tech, maybe it's Eddie Van Halen under that bucket!

1:38 - 3:20

A guitar solo performed by then 18 year old Randy California.

The guy who taught Walter Becker of Steely Dan to play guitar.. The guy who was supposed to be the second guitarist in The Jimi Hendrix Experience..

And whom Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin ripped the basis of 'Stairway to Heaven' off of Spirit's song 'Taurus'; Zeppelin opened for Spirit in 68-69' and covered their song 'Fresh Garbage'.

Anyways, for 1970, California's techniques show the clear work of a virtuoso.

Way too hard to pick a favorite. Everyone forget about Joe Satriani? Here's one, not Satch, and maybe not a fav but damn good still and nobody else will think of it...

The Outlaws... Around 7:00 mark but pretty much the whole song is great guitar.
