Raptor Witness Posted May 26, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 26, 2012 (edited) She hasn't received her name yet, but she's widely anticipated to be Beryl, soon. The year is off to a quick start. Beryl is fittingly, a Greek name. As for being a token of "good luck," that remains to be seen. Edited May 26, 2012 by Raptor Witness

Raptor Witness Posted May 27, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted May 27, 2012 Beryl has managed to isolate herself from the dry air that had her surrounded. This is the first step to intensification of a system transitioning from subtropical to tropical.
Raptor Witness Posted May 29, 2012 Author #4 Share Posted May 29, 2012 You know you're in trouble, when the American flag gets replaced with one of these at Midnight on Memorial Day. On the other hand, the rain was a blessing to the drought striken areas of the Homeland. Maybe this is a "carrot and stick" approach.

msmike1 Posted May 31, 2012 #7 Share Posted May 31, 2012 I wouldn't get too worried yet. A couple of tropical storms that are sensationalized and made out to be a whole lot worse than they really are before hurricane season starts is not really that big of a deal. Odd? yes, but a big deal? No not really. I am still on the fence about this hurricane season. Very mild winter, waters in the Atlantic, and especially the Gulf of Mexico didn't cool all that much, could lead to more storms than usual, could also lead to more intense and stronger storms. I say could because it might not lead to a thing. The predictions, which I pay very little attention to, don't have it being that bad of a season. Although, if you only have one hurricane during the season, and it's big, and it hits you, then its a bad season. Oh well, should be interesting for us hurricane junkies. +and-then Posted May 31, 2012 #8 Share Posted May 31, 2012 Sitting down here in Mobile, I keep a pretty sharp eye out starting about now. Check the supplies and look over the "boarding up" gear. I really hope we avoid it again this season. The mild winter does worry me a bit though. I also wonder if the next Gulf hurricane will bring more than salt water when the storm surge comes.....I can just imagine a brown sludge from the bottom covering stuff for a mile or two inland. Hopefully it's deep enough it will stay put.
