Cats do not have 'sweet' taste bud receptors ...that's why they don't steal chocolate like dogs do!

Taun-i belive your are right about "coppers"

But cop used to be an important post before it was  bastardized - it was for Chief Of Police - criminals thought it insulting to call police cops

I think it's kinda like how some Old enlisted soldiers get if called sir-you've heard 'em i worked for a living OR my parents were married....

Since cats are popular subject here: my little calico had four kittens the other day.  She chose to have them in a little crawl space just at the head of my bed.  I'm kinda flattered that she trusts me so much.

Hardly anybody knows that  "Fluffy"  always had her kittens in Dad's sock drawer .   After the first time , when the drawer just happened to be open,  she'd make a fuss till Ma would give in .

As of 2014, the American Department of Veterans Affairs is still paying a Civil War pension.
The last surviving child of a Union Veteran still receives a small, monthly pension payment 149 years after the Civil War ended.
