UM-Bot Posted August 21, 2015 #1 Share Posted August 21, 2015 A message in a bottle dating back more than a century has been discovered on a beach in Germany. The bottle, which is believed to date back 108 years, was found by Marianne Winkler and her husband Horst during a stroll on a beach on the North Sea island of Amrum. Paranomali Posted August 21, 2015 #2 Share Posted August 21, 2015 (edited) It's such a risk to send a message in a bottle, not knowing where and who will find it. So cool to see this message finally read Edited August 21, 2015 by Paranomali

Lucas Cooper Merrin Posted August 21, 2015 #5 Share Posted August 21, 2015 (edited) My class did this at school back in the 80's with our name and adress along with a request to get in contact regarding where it ended up! And out of the 30+ kids only one got a reply and it was from the harbour master from the local shipping port a few miles up the coast, 2 weeks later! So for one to turn up a century later is amazing! Astra. Posted August 21, 2015 #6 Share Posted August 21, 2015 Wow - that would be pretty awesome to find a message in a bottle - especially one being over 100 years old. What a wonderful find. When I go for strolls on the beach - I often walk on the shore line - to see what the ocean may wash up and reveal. I do have a collection of some pretty amazing shells that I have found. highdesert50 Posted August 21, 2015 #7 Share Posted August 21, 2015 Perhaps one hundred years from now, a distant galactic visitor will show up with a fragment of an ancient analog television signal of a movie bearing the signature of Steven Spielberg.

Infernal Gnu Posted August 22, 2015 #9 Share Posted August 22, 2015 It would be funny if an old metal container was recovered with a holographic message from a space alien requesting help after their spaceship crashed on Easter Island in 1500. Aquarius Chik Posted September 22, 2015 #12 Share Posted September 22, 2015 Neat story. It's fascinating how they studied things that long ago. It's only been 108 years but we've come a long way!
