I Wish I Hadn't Woke Up To See This Today

So here is my WTF of the day, that has already ruined it, along with the fact that the GOP debate is happening in a few hours also.

I opened my door and saw a truck pull up and two guys got out, went to the center alley between trailers, and I heard them saying "Well, so you think we're gonna have to move the whole line? We could run the main one between those trailers..." so obviously they are from the local water company.

One of the guys motions the other to stand aside, and holds this weird telescoping shiny metal rod out horizontally and looks down it. I thought "Weird, I guess they have to do surveying too as part of this". Then he walks a couple of steps... and the rod turns sideways, and he stops and nods to himself then puts the rod away and they continue talking.

I blinked twice at what I just witnessed and closed the door. The water company guy was *@&*$ DOWSING to find where the waterline was. It was probably even one of those expensive $2,500 ones like they sell to detect bombs in Iraq. Frack Oklahoma's stupidity in its ear with a rake.

Cut to the chase did he find water only using magical metal sticks or did he have to resort to looking at a chart?

I actually dowsed a well. I'm guessing that they could have struck water regardless of where they dug since the property was't more than 1/2 and acre, but still, I dowsed that darned well.

Hahaha, Well they took some tools out there but they were standing around and I got bored. I wish now I had watched, but its an established area in the alley, so it's not like they really had to hunt.

You could argue that no matter how much new fangaled tech you have, using something as simple - okay, not that much reliable, I'll give you that - as dowsing rods isn't that bad an idea...

Why not? What better way to find water?

Not unless electronic tools physically turn 90 degrees when they meet their criteria. I've seen other people and I've used dowsing rods before, so I know what dowsing looks like - this absolutely was it.

I was on the wrong side to see if there was a strap etc like in this pic, but it looked similar to this - not exactly but definitely a shiny telescoping rod. It's *possibe* it was a car antenna, but given Oklahoma's stupidity, I'm sure taxpayer money was spent on something like this. I remember growing up learning about this and trying it myself, and my dad "witching" for oil on our own property. This is crazy.

Oh, I see that happening. I can also imagine that some bright spark invoice the local government for a very pricy bit of kit, and pocketing the cash then cut down a pair of coathangers - nicked from a hotel - to use instead!

A few years back the power company sent me a letter saying they were replacing my meter with a smart meter. it was going be much better for me it said. well all I really know is an American no longer has to come read it, and my bill has never gone down. I cannot see how I can be pleased that all I got was one more fellow American without a job. The letter said, I did not have to worry about a reader coming on my property. I never had a problem with that in 50 years of living, why would I start now? I am still waiting for that great benefit to me.
