Sleep Walking & Talking

Hi everyone

Over the past year or so I've been talking in my sleep and singing in my sleep too. At first I thought it was funny but now it's happening at least 3 times a week. I know it's nothing to worry about but it still bugs me.

A lot of the time I wake up to my boyfriend calling my name and shaking me, asking me to wake up. He said that I keep shouting and panicking about spiders, that he's to get them before they get me. I'm aracniphobic, it's really bad. I have conversations with him and I have no memory of it. I wouldn't know I'd done anything if he didn't tell me the next day.

I stopped talking and walking in my sleep for a few years but now it's starting up again. I use to be really bad when I was younger. I shared a room with my older sister and she said that one night I got up and turned every single light on in the house and then sat at the top of our stairs just staring into space. Another time I got up and turned the TV on in our room and when she asked me what I was doing I told her I didn't know and went back to sleep. She had to get up and turn the TV off lol

I guess the thing that annoys me most when I sleep talk or walk is that most of the time I wake up in a panic and I have no idea what's going on and it takes me a while to calm down properly.

I thought it would be good to share some of my experiences. Do any of you guys have any Sleep walking or talking experiences?

thanks for taking the time to read this :)

Hi,

No not me personally. The part that caught my attention was where you say most of the time that you wake up in a panic. I can not help but think that this is the key for gaining a measure of control over this.

What ever is disturbing you some how requires physical expression. You need to talk or walk off that energy on some physical way.

I've held conversations with people while I was asleep, or so my friends tell me. Somebody says something, and I respond, and they think I'm awake. Everything from explanations of Batman to "Are you still there? Can you get that for me?" I can't connect them to any dreams, though.

Well, about a year ago I ended up in a car crash. It was my own fault and no one else was involved. I had just pulled away from traffic lights so I wasn't going fast but when I started to drive off I noticed there was a spider on my window, I had the window down because it was a hot summers evening so it was crawling along the part where the window goes down into if that makes sense and I reached over to the passengers side to get something to get it away and I turned a bend and the next thing I knew the spider was on a web and it was right in front of my face and then there was a huge bang, I don't remember much after it but I'd managed to put my hazard lights on and get out the car. I'd ran straight into a barrier. I was alright, a few cuts to my hands and I had whiplash but I was terrified of spiders before then.

Not sure if that maybe has a factor in why I'm shouting about spiders in my sleep lol I think the thing that scares me the most when I'm sleep talking is when I'm starting to snap out of it and I'm really confused and I don't know what's going on. I get really disorientated.

I think it's fasinating how we can talk and walk in our sleep though

My dad said that when he was little, he would sometimes answer the phone for his parents while he was asleep and then his mom would come into his room and ask if there were any messages he would rely whatever the message was to her in his sleep. He said that when he woke up he never recalled any of it though.

I don't sleep walk but I do sometimes sleep talk I guess. But I only do it during lucid dreams where I'm calling a name. So I might vibrate a name in a dream and sometimes I actually start to use my vocal cords. As soon as I do though I'm aware I'm doing it and its a weird feeling because I'm in the dream environment but I'm also aware of my body at the same time. I only slightly get the real sound out though and nothing like the level of volume I'm using in the dream.

I have a kind of overview about these things that may be helpful. This experience with the spider is a good example for me to use to present my thoughts on this.

When we panic because of any phobia or fear, we tend to make matter more worse than they need to be. The concept to consider is that it is okay for me to have this "panic attack". If you can have that presence of mind and feeling then you will drive the auto to a quick and safe stop to deal with the spider.

Now the talking and dream walking represent a need to speak about and/or get up and do something. The more you are okay with that 'need' and at peace with this 'way of being' you have, the less it will disrupt your life by expressing itself in these ways.

I do hope that I explained my thoughts on this properly.
