Archaeologists with the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) have uncovered the remains of an ancient farm house near the city of Rosh Ha-Ayin in central Israel.

The farm house had 23 rooms and was built in the 8th century BC, the time of the Assyrian conquest.

This is a fascinating find, but I have a very sour taste in my mouth over this....where remains have been found for a 2,800 year old farm from the time of the Assyrian conquest, other areas of Israel are being blown apart because of war.

Apart from advancements in weapons what progress has man actually achieved in terms of peace?

The farmers all those years ago, where the inhabitants participated in processing agricultural produce, they worked the land, they lived to survive, they built their farms and used their skills, they were teachers for the future ( as were so many of our ancestors) .................and for what? The farm is no longer but the fighting is still there.

Quite a lot. Big wars can happen because the large countries that wage them are - necessarily - internally at peace. It's not 'world' peace, but it is large-area peace: a thousand years ago, what are now unified nations were mostly composed of independent enclaves that were constantly at each others' throats.

What does "internally at peace" mean? sorry I am at a lose to what you mean. We know about why there were wars in history, but the reasons for war today seems to be the same as then....religion, greed and power....so what have we learned....apart from how to build bigger and more powerful weapons?

I mean that New York State isn't firing cannons across the Hudson at New Jersey because there are other ways to settle disputes now, and an accepted power (the United States) to enforce the settlements. This isn't a difficult concept unless you're wedded to fashionable despair.

New York state, the Hudson, New Jersey, fashionable despair......sorry, completely lost now...I did mention the weapons have improved, but accepted power to enforce settlements? do you mean with the new advancements in weaponry? I do not see that as a sign of an "acceptance" by those at the end of those weapons.
