kidagakash Posted July 29, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 29, 2014 When I was a teenager I frequently drew pictures and doodles when I was stuck someplace with nothing to do. One day started to draw a picture of a street corner at night. A lamp overhanging the corner shown on a man I drew wearing a trenchcoat and a hat with either red eyes or some type of sunglasses. One of the girls who was also there said something to me like "That's a great shadow drawing!" I asked what she was talking about and she gave me this strange look like she was confused that I had drawn this and just thought of it as a shady looking guy on a street corner. I have reconstructed the image in it's most basic form. Didn't care to do the brick walls and extra shading as I dont like using paint. I had been drawing pictures of this guy on the corner under a light more than a few times lately and when she told me I was drawing something called hat man I didn't understand until years later when I had researched shadow people and saw the same exact black figure I had been drawing as a kid. Nighthawk9653 Posted July 29, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 29, 2014 (edited) Hmm, that's really interesting maybe your subconscious was trying to tell you something, or maybe you had seen them when you were little, but forgot and they resurfaced later on in your life. I used to always draw this really nice cliff scene as a kid. It was a big rocky cliff overlooking the ocean, and there was always something sitting on the cliff looking out over the water. Always wondered why I drew it all the time. Something to do with tall cliffs overlooking the ocean... I often drew a cliff scene, usually with a tree with no leaves at the edge and almost always at night
Rafterman Posted July 29, 2014 #4 Share Posted July 29, 2014 You're simply engaging in what is known as confirmation bias. Now that you know about the hat man, any recreation you do of the original drawing is going to be influenced by this knowledge.
dr no Posted July 29, 2014 #5 Share Posted July 29, 2014 Without this hatman nonsense which is a fairly recent thing despite what some people say, a picture like that is more reminiscent of films like the Third Man with shadowy spies lurking in the shadows

Now that you know about the hat man, any recreation you do of the original drawing is going to be influenced by this knowledge. I thought someone might offer that possibility, and I have wondered about that to. I drew this picture many times and have a good visual recollection of it except for the eyes. I usually did this drawing in pen or pencil so it is likely that the eyes were not red (unless I had color options then who knows.) I think the eyes were actually those kind of circular lens sunglasses like john lennon wore.
95-Nasty Posted July 29, 2014 #7 Share Posted July 29, 2014 Im a fairly good artist, i design for many tattoo artists, and that is mainly Fantasy stuff, skulls mare than anything and since i was a child i used to dream/ fantasize and see skulls in trees, walls, pictures, the sky every day things! I have a huge collection of skulls now.... Im sorry im drifting of the point..... I did see a shadow person once, or what i thought Ive posted it on here before, got a load of information about them! They seem to occur (for me) when i dont expect them (belive it or not, I DONT CARE)! When i wake in the night, my senses are fully aware and i know i have a torch and a camera by my bed, i take them to the bathroom, but see nothing! On the odd 'first' occasions id forgot my torch and camera, i have 'thought' ive seen something out of the corner of my eye (in the mirror)! But i look and nothing! Sorry, drifted off the subject......

Sweetpumper Posted July 29, 2014 #9 Share Posted July 29, 2014 I've drawn skinny guys before, so I drew Slenderman long before he even existed.

I always meant the drawings to be of a shady cloaked man. As for the hat man, or shadows in general, I have known people who had seen things like that since I was about 18-19, which was over ten years ago. It's nothing that new. It's just that it went viral in the last decade. Before then it was not common knowledge.

I had never heard or read about the Hat Man before the internet,if you look at old books on mysteries you won't find him in them either.I think it is a modern urban myth, don't forget we know that the Slenderman was made up but we have had people on here claiming they have seen him
