A study has shown that anti-depressants can be used to help former lab chimps combat depression and trauma.

Researchers say that the treatment should be considered for hundreds of other chimps that have been used in scientific research.

The finding comes as a US funding body thinks about retiring the more than 300 chimps it uses for medical research.

At least they're getting help. A good story for a change.

It's probably just a ploy to 'trial' new antidepressants before giving them to humans.

No, that is not true.  Many scientists have fought long and hard to stop testing on primates because it is almost identical to testing on humans.  Although it has provided an incredible amount of knowledge it is cruel knowing what we know about primates and it is time to move past using them in research.
