Still Waters Posted October 8, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 8, 2014 A BRITISH school cancelled a visit from a charity worker and her nine-year-old son because of "misguided hysteria" among parents concerned that their children could be infected with Ebola. http://www.express.c...ierra-Leone-boy
Lilly Posted October 8, 2014 #2 Share Posted October 8, 2014 (edited) Frankly, people are going to continue to panic until something tangible is being done. Quarantine of people coming from ebola stricken countries needs to be implemented...there's just no other way around this until a vaccine is developed. Oh, and it's still legal to do this: http://www.cnn.com/2014/10/06/justice/callan-law-on-quarantine/ Edited October 8, 2014 by Lilly addition
Lilly Posted October 8, 2014 #3 Share Posted October 8, 2014 FYI: There is a petition available online that US citizens can choose to sign in favour of quarantine.
keithisco Posted October 8, 2014 #4 Share Posted October 8, 2014 (edited) The school took advice from health chiefs in the borough and passed on Public Health England's guidance that anyone travelling from affected countries who were free of symptoms was not infectious. How long before contracting Ebola do you actually show symptoms? Isn't it 5 - 21 days? So you could be asymptomatic yet carry the disease until it presents... This is nothing to do with hysteria. Err on the side of caution would be my advice. Edited October 8, 2014 by keithisco

I think I would accept the need for quarantine if I was coming home from one of those countries - as long as they didn't put me next to the cattle . Seriously, they could set aside a modest quasi isolated hotel for the purpose and make the costs a part of the ticket price into the country - subsidized but not for free.

Except with Ebola you're not infectious until you're symptomatic. So that's the only "good" thing about the whole damn thing, you can't have "Typoid Marys" wandering about.
