Mont Park was built as an institution for the insane (a nut house) so it would be unreasonable that there would be alot of place memory and bad memories in those walls. The patients there were treated terribly and subject to treatments for their illnesses that they never consented too.

The previous video was removed due to mistaken information in the narration.

This new version photoclip has much more images of both inside and outside the main building.

Of course it's sad......typically if you went in you didn't come out and plus living with a severe mental illness is not fun.

Seeing that filled me with such sadness for some reason and reiterated for me the feeling that it's not a place to go aSs there are many sad and lost souls there.

What annoys me is the way the buildings have been left to rot in the hands of vandals , the main building is considered beyond repair and now a total waste.
Progressive state governments are to blame , the building could have been easily converted into shelter for the homeless or emergency accomodation as it was in the 40's .
I have been told that the site will soon be demolished to make way for 80 new homes plus a shopping strip , one building is currently being refurbished and will become part of the LaTrobe University group of buildings.

Agreed Nuzza.........i would have liked to seen it go to homeless or prahaps a special school as there are not enough of them in Australia by any means. The reason they are probably demolishing the building, apart from the obvious is that prahaps this urban renewal development does not want that building there as a stigma for the new suburb/estate going up.

  • Giving up doesn't always mean you're weak - sometimes it just means you're strong enough to let go.

I have also heard that they plan to demolish the buildings to make way for more houses in the estate. They have already started to convert Mont Park (behind University Hill) into apartments or townhouses or whatever it is that they're doing up there. It is sad that both asylums are essentially being destroyed and forgotten. While the patients there weren't treated as humanely as they should have been, for some people those buildings hold a lot of (probably) final memories of friends and relatives. My mother actually knew someone who was a patient of La Rundel for many years and, even though she did not enjoy going there, she said she was sad to hear the buildings were to be torn down.
If you're from Australia and are looking for some great things to do on the weekend, check out the WeekendNotes website, or better yet, if you're from Victoria check out my own articles (here is my most recent - http://www.weekendno...tle-urban-cafe/). Happy reading!!

One building (South 4) has been under refurbishment for some time , this will be an addition to the Latrobe uni.
I have also heard that one of the other buildings will be refurbished to become the Landcaster Gate Community Centre , I don't know which particular building they refer to.

This time I did a solo walk through , I self investigated the room of the previous photo where what appeared to be human face peering out.
My battery charge on the videocam failed unexpectedly just after I ventured down to the creepy lower floor , therefore I had to ubrupty finish filming.
As usual , I have added the creepy music scores from my collection to enhance the clip.

  • I dont really want to put a quote... Do i have to?

Loving the pix, and videos of this place.

Went there in November, last year for a look around. During the week, and we were dressed in work gear, cars with flashing lights, etc...

Work friend and i, were there for over an hour, no sign of security, i have heard they are not around much on a weekday, during the day, So any how, we walked around the whole thing. The fence in some places is no more than a foot high as it has been trampled in lots of places.

We never went inside, but i stuck my head through a few holes here and there. Standing at the main building, hearing the wind blow thru the place gave me chills.

Also noticed along the covered walkways to buildings, there is an "exaust type pipe" thing running along the underside of the covering.. Does anybody know what they were for?

Also took a lot of pix, but 3 are strange.. I seen in the last pic "something" when it was small but when i zoomed in, looks like something is in the big hole, looking to the left and down, and in the other hole shots, there doesnt seem to be anything there, but looks to be in the window to the right of the big hole.

I have a few more pix of other buildings and the rear, will post up soon.

These for now. Thanks
