No Magic Key

There is no easy way, no magic key and no special procedure that will take away struggle from our lives. There are movements in our lives that can cause us great joy and bring healing. People we love and can talk to; feel heard and in both cases a certain level of acceptance of each other than lends a flow to the relationship. It is like two adjoining pieces of a puzzle that find each other. Some are lucky enough to have one or several such relationships that last a lifetime; though I believe that may be rarer than believed.

Then there are others in our lives who though they may be part of the puzzle they are from a section that is way over somewhere where the fit may seem impossible, improbable and something not even desired. These are the situations that enter every life that cause suffering, misunderstanding and no amount of frustration for both parties.

Not to mention people who have only one way of looking at things and for no reason will they change and will make life miserable (if possible) for those who live, know or work with them. The broad umbrella term is called a “Personality disorder”. Perhaps we all have this disorder to one extreme or another. Some pieces of the puzzle can’t fit no matter what you do with them. I would think that at some point in most of our lives we will find ourselves being a deep source of suffering for someone who can’t seem to quite understand us, and vise-versa, we can’t understand them either. In other words we can all at times be an enigma to others.

I have found that terms like narrow minded, bigoted, stubborn, crazy, pig headed, hard headed, brain washed and just plain stupid, or only reserved for those we disagree with on many subjects and who are in an ‘out’ group. I had a couple come into the store one day and proceeded to tell me that soon a space ship was going to come and take them to heaven. That St. Paul was leading the group and they wanted to know if I would join them. By the way, I do tend to attract that kind of person into my life. I think my left eyebrow went up, can’t help it at times, and they said that I should be a little more open minded and not so closed to other possibilities. In other words; I was narrow minded and perhaps pig-headed. So I smiled and said to them, “Ok just one thing”. They said “Yes go on”. So I continued: “Well if the space ship does not come, why don’t you come back and talk to me”. They shook their heads sadly and left. They never came back, so perhaps the space ship did come.

Lots of things are considered crazy by people. For instance, to believe in a Creator Intelligence behind the universe, this is considered an irrational and childish belief by some folks, though to me it seems obvious. There had to be a lot of information (placed?) there for the Universe to come into being from absolute ‘nothingness’. For RNA, DNA, and the first cell to form would point again, to some need for an intelligence to be involved. That is what brought Anthony Flew to change from being an atheist to a deist in the last years of his life. Which took a great deal of courage in my opinion, he went “where the evidence lead him”. So to me that is not irrational, but to others, I am a weak minded, fearful, irrational human being with daddy issue who needs a crutch to get through life. I find it interesting that these hyper rational human beings don’t understand that loading others with contempt who don’t agree with them will not help their cause much. In fact it makes them no different that any other ‘group’.

Then there are those who believe that the Universe sort of created itself out of this same absolute “nothingness”, which to me is irrational, then the whole unlikely process went forth until you have well…..me. Well I am sure there are those who may say that by my very existence, that in it-self will prove there is no God.

When it was discovered to the chagrin of many scientist that the Universe had a beginning and will also have an end, it caused a great deal of concern and fear that it may point to some need of a Creator. To me it seems kind of crazy. So those who espouse this philosophy can come across as forcing the issue and yes fanatical. Of course the same can be said about me by some atheist. So perhaps both sides are irrational and a bit childish over this issue. I don’t think there is any way out of this impasse. As a species we still too childish and insecure to really be able to maybe see another way. What that other way is I don’t know at this time. It is at rock bottom an issue of Philosophy and not of science.

There are theist and atheist as well as agnostics who are scientist in good standing, so this whole thing about science and religion being at odds is nonsense. Though there are those in both camps who will say this…..perhaps they are the true fanatics….I don’t know….perhaps again, I am the fanatic, but will only use this term for those who disagree with me. Yeah different parts of the puzzle, there will always be pieces that will never fit, perhaps better not to talk at all.
