Henriy Posted October 9, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 9, 2013 I like the United States, free and open, but are not accustomed to American culture too open about sexuality, so I feel very casually, why just can go to bed with a man or a woman. U.S. sex really open it? This will not affect the child does, the child will imitate it! And to the children so early to instill knowledge will not affect the child's future growth it? Who better understanding of American culture, you can answer the next question I do?
freetoroam Posted October 9, 2013 #2 Share Posted October 9, 2013 Sorry? American culture? Thought this happened all over the world today, some doors are just more open than others so its easier to see what realy goes on. As for sex education, some countries do not seem to have any at all. Imaginarynumber1 Posted October 9, 2013 #4 Share Posted October 9, 2013 culture maybe but Americans are among the most sexually repressed people in the world. I was going to say the same thing. For such a basic and fun part of life, sex sure is stigmatized in America.
Frank Merton Posted October 9, 2013 #5 Share Posted October 9, 2013 I was born too soon and missed the sexual revolutions both in the States and later in Vietnam. Old days you married who and when you were told and had no idea (well not quite but pretty much) what happened next. Now of course everyone learns about STDs in school, and figures out the rest from that. There is no puritan like an old-lace Communist puritan. Fortunately the party has changed -- fortunately, that is, for the young.

Surely the Book of Leviticus provides a good grounding for sexual and moral behaviour in the modern world, doesn't it?

John from Lowell Posted October 9, 2013 #8 Share Posted October 9, 2013 In my view, we could do a better job in sex education and life skill preparation. The American children are not as educated as they could be.
White Crane Feather Posted October 9, 2013 #9 Share Posted October 9, 2013 (edited) I'm not sure what country everyone is talking about. Sure there are sexually repressed cultures within the United States but this is a multicultural society. We have a porn trade fair in Las Vegas for heavens sake. I think the us probably pretty much invented pornography, the free love of the 60s, and I think in many ways we lead the pack in terms of our outspoken gay and lesbian community. Everyone thinks were a bunch of bible toting puritans because of our fundamental Christian communities that like to be loud. It's not true. There are people from all walks if life here with all kinds of value systems. Yes some are prudish many and i do mean many are not. J. K. Posted October 9, 2013 #10 Share Posted October 9, 2013 Think about "adult" dramas on television. Does our society influence the media, or does the media influence our society?
Avallaine Posted October 10, 2013 #11 Share Posted October 10, 2013 As an American, all I can say is that watching some British sex comedies in the early 80's shocked me, because they were far more bawdy than anything I'd seen before. I mean, from what I recall, they made even later American stuff (like American Pie) look downright restrained. And this was just before AIDS hit the mainstream media and created a new surge of puritanism... It started me noticing a pattern: Brits seemed to be more okay with viewing sex but were shocked by viewing violence, while Americans were exactly the opposite. I don't know if the pattern still holds up, but that's what it looked like to me back then.

Frank Merton Posted October 10, 2013 #15 Share Posted October 10, 2013 Compared to most of the world the States is loose and lascivious. Don't just make your comparisons to western Europe.
