Dailycaller....Sunday morning’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” found former  Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum defending his belief in the intersection  of religion and politics. Stephanopoulos pressed Santorum on comments he made about former  President John F. Kennedy’s 1960 address to the Greater Houston  Ministerial Association, in which Kennedy strongly affirmed his belief  in the separation of church and state.

Stephanopoulos pointed out that earlier in the campaign, Santorum  said Kennedy’s speech made him “almost throw up.” Stephanopoulos asked  why. Read More Here

I'm no Santorum fan but I thought he handled Steffy pretty well with his explanation.  I cringed when he first said NO ABSOLUTE SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE but when he explained that he meant that all people, including those of whatever faith, should have a voice in our government I was put at ease.
In Kennedy's defense, he was a catholic speaking in front of baptists...what else was he supposed to say? :w00t:

I also think everyone no matter what your religion is should have a voice in government but not the church itself.

Can't argue with that.

But I don't think that's what Santorum intends. The man speaks with forked tongue.

Romney will almost certainly be the nominee and that means Obama will almost certainly be reelected.  That prospect reminds me of a caption over a photo of burned out, flattened post war Berlin.  It was a Hitler quote: Give me four years and I promise you, you won't recognize your towns!

No bombing yet but if he has another four years, who knows what wonders we'll see.  The man is an arrogant fool and a ##@*&% menace!

I remember something christian in our history when they ran things... Oh yeah it was in Salem where they tortured and murdered "witches" for their mythology! That's what he wants running the government?

Between this and him saying rape is his god's gift to women, I just don't see how this moron can get support from anybody and yet he does and my faith in humanity is yet again battered down a bit more.

I've always beleived that seperation of church and state was, and is, an illusion. How can you seperate a man, as a Representative of the people, from his base beliefs? You can mouth the words, but a real life Christian is going to vote in the Congress, or act as President, based on their Christian morals and ethics.

I do agree that Organized Religion should stay out of US politics, but then I think Unions, and Non-profits like Planned Parenthood should be ejected from Politics too.

In my opinion there are people (santoram among the many) who would love to create a christian taliban to control the country and decide what is right for other people. The religious right are so wanting to "get this country back to its' christian roots" that they have no idea what those roots were.

I couldn't care less what religion a person chooses for themselves...the split second that religion is wielded as a political tool or educational tool to change the country to what some extremist feels this country should be(regardless of what people want), I have a major problem.

When in the Army I swore to protect the Constitution and the freedoms it offers. When people want to tinker with it in order to suit their own religious agenda things have gone off the tracks.
Too many people on both sides of the spectrum have fallen into this mentality that a full one half of the country are the enemy for having different beliefs...in a country based on freedom of expression. It is this infighting that allows the focus to be taken away from "we the people" being able to watch, and have control over government corruption and ineptitude that is running rampant in our leadership.

People should be working towards fixing problems, not creating them.

If Santorum keeps making these inflammatory statements (which he is apt to do)he will fade quickly.  Not much chance of a Christian Taliban seizing control.  I'm sure that a lot of fringe groups would love to impose an agenda on the whole country but none have the base or the power to do so.

What is really funny is, the guy isnt even a christian. He is a war mongering globalist. Hand picked by the elite. If he loses to 0bama, great. If he beats 0bama, great. Things will stay exactly the same either way.

He may not be a devout Christian - but Santorum represents and is backed by fundamental extremists.  If he gets power it's goodbye science and hello Genesis ........   And America will become the new Iran.
