Walken Posted April 28, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 28, 2005 SaRuMaN, I was wondering why you started UM. Do you have an intrest in the paranormal? Would you say you were a beleiver or skeptix? Is it difficuilt/fun to run UM, is it worth it? Thats it.
Saru Posted April 28, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 28, 2005 I was wondering why you started UM I had a really small web page when I was 16 about the unexplained, and at the time I just made it for the sake of having a web page. After a while I started to develop it a bit, and that's essentially where UM came from. It was originally called 'The On-Line Encyclopedia of the Unexplained'. In 2001 when I moved to the unexplained-mysteries.com domain I scrapped that title and renamed it 'Unexplained Mysteries'. Do you have an intrest in the paranormal? Yep i've always been interested in what cannot be explained. When I was younger there was a magazine in the house with 'true' UFO stories in it which I read and that was what first got me hooked on the subject. Would you say you were a beleiver or skeptix I started out as a believer, but now i'd say i'm an open-minded skeptic. Is it difficuilt/fun to run UM I'm not sure 'fun' is the right word Very satisfying definately. Parts of it are difficult, but on the whole it's not too hard to run the site. is it worth it? Absolutely

We went to school together, i've known him for as long as I can remember. why did you choose him to co-manage the forum? I needed someone I could trust 100% What about the other scottish moderators? Do you know them personally? The only Scottish moderator on UM is Thistle, who I haven't met in person...yet

Saru Posted April 28, 2005 #9 Share Posted April 28, 2005 What do you and dAz do for a living? Right now, I build and maintain web sites for a living. I'm also a part time student with the Open University, studying computing. Daz works in the retail industry. How long do you spend on UM daily? Not sure, 2-3 hours, possibly more. A lot of that is taken up with general site maintenance, posting the news, answering e-mails etc. been spending more time on it recently as I was putting the new Encyclopedia section together. What is your favourite UM? Probably the phenomenon of ghosts and hauntings, always had me intreagued. when was UM first started?(the very first day if you can recall please) The old web page which eventually became UM was started in early 1998, no idea what day, or even what month. 'Unexplained Mysteries' itself began on the day we moved to the 'unexplained-mysteries.com' domain, sometime in March 2001.

Saru Posted April 29, 2005 #14 Share Posted April 29, 2005 So when did SPF's start? I assume you mean SFN there, it started in March 2004. Was it inspired by the succ-sess of UM? Why is it about SFN? Not particularly, i've always had an interest in spaceflight and wanted to try starting a site on the subject.

Walken Posted April 29, 2005 Author #16 Share Posted April 29, 2005 Ooohhh, good question. Hollywood style: So what are your plans for the future, Mr. Wizard? You seem to have been type-casted as UM and we know from SFN's that you're cappable of a lot more. See any awards on the horizon?
