And this doesn't even factor in accidental deaths. As far as I'm aware, there are a substantial amount of Americans killed every year by accident. More than murders, is it not (I could be wrong in that)?

Yes, & what also happens is you get a annual gun related death rate of 14 compared with a U.S. rate of 9,369 :o how dumbfounding is that?

You're a sheep.  You can let your politicians tell you what freedoms you may or may not have.  Ever consider the U.S. is a hell of a lot bigger than the UK?  Of course there are going to be more murders with guns.  Just like there are more DUI charges, more assault charges, etc etc...

If we're going to get into, "he knew the laws, he shouldn't have broken them."  Just the same as if the US ever bans guns.  If I feel a law is against my Constitutional Right, I don't see it as a law.  I see it as fascism and I will fight it, want to lock me up for it?  Go ahead, enough of us will get sick of it and there will be a whole new problem the government will have to worry about.  People can only be pushed so far.

And you're a plank. but hey I'm not criticising, but if you're quite happy to see your kids get shot to bits on a regular basis, i say carry on.

I take it back.  You're not a sheep, just a flat out idiot.  I'd rather have the ability to defend my family against nut jobs than to sit back with my thumb up my ass and watch like you would.

Ugh, out of this thread.  Even on the internet, stupid, idiotic posts like that annoy me to the point where I'm gonna get banned.

Fact is the 'nut job' you're 'defending' your family from will most likely have a gun too & if he shoots you first ever stop to wonder what he'd do to your family whilst your laying in a pool of blood?

So you think banning guns will stop nutjobs and criminals having guns then?
Just look at us in the uk,the only people that own guns are the few farmers, hunters ect and criminals.

I would much rather live in the US to be honest just for your gun laws,At least you have a chance of defending your family.

I guess you could always shoot UM's sanitation department if they ban you... Problem solved :gun:

I have learnt something new here.. you can only protect your family if you have a gun. :su

The link is pretty shoddy in just about all respects. You're right, it is lifted from a Daily Mail article that also tried to claim that according to statistics Britain's rate of violent crime was four times that of the US. And they're right. But America's definition of violent crime is much narrower than Britain's. In Britain every crime against a person (eg, simple assault and sexual assault) is recorded as a violent crime. In the US only murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault are recorded as such.

These differences in defining categories of crime is why most commentators view overall homicide rate as the best indicator of violent crime (see Pinker's "The Better Angels Of Our Nature). If you look at those, Britain has a similar rate to Australia and New Zealand. America has a rate at least triple those.

And it really doesn't have a lot to do with party politics. There has been a steady decline in violent crime in Britain since 1995 (Hang on. The Tories can take the credit for starting that)

Forgot the link http://blog.skeptica...nt-than-the-us/

It’s unbelievable, how members kick off or get naturally aggressive towards others that disagree with them, especially over “the right to bear arms.”

You can almost feel the anger/nastyness in their posts and these are the people who want to carry guns? They lose control in a discussion on a family forum, god help you if you cut them up in a car park.

It may come as a bit of a surprize to many of you that live across the pond but we are not a nation of sheep or lemmings and we don’t live in fear of everyone that passes our homes. I don’t think I have ever come across an incident where I thought to myself… “Damn I wish I had a gun”

Actually I have once thought it would be good to have a gun right now.. when bunch of thick red necks decided to pick on a Native American friend of mine in a bar, these people were so thick they were trying to tell him to get back to his own Country, “get back to your own country Prairie N*@~#” they said to him.. We don’t serve your kind here. A gun would have put them out of their dumb ass misery but a beating was the next best thing?

What’s the quote: “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people”… No they don't but they sure as hell make it easier.

I have spent most of my life using guns, knives and I believe there is a place for them in society but not in the family home.

I have discussed “the right to bear arms” and voiced my opinions, argued until I was blue in the face and one thing I have learnt in discussions like this is, both parties have their own opinions and those opinions are equally as right to them has yours is to you, there are no rights and wrong and many times not even any common ground, just agree to disagree and move on.

I think Im going to dance now.. :su :su

OMG i have never seen a thread like this where people are defender people walking around with knives in them.
If i see someone with a knife in their hand that is not intended for their role then i think that person is or has done something wrong. And if its a large knife then I think that person needs specialist help.

I think Americans dont know what they are talking about, if they supported knifes not banned then people in the UK would think they are crazy and mentally unstable
