Thats kind of what I was thinking. That and our minds work very differently too. In a sense, are minds are always active; it focuses on past, present, and future. An animals mostly focuses on the present and on some level the future, and only some animals the past. By focus, I don't mean memory, rather objectives and learning, among other things.

Does anyone know what is up with that hat? What does the hat symbolise ... what does it mean? Is it a status symbol, does it represent the particular job that he does? Any ideas at all?

Hello Seven,

I realize that you started this discussion a long while ago, and the conversation has undoubtedly moved on from your original questions. Even so, I thought I would reply anyway.

I have not seen this "Hatman" entity, but I am sadly, all too well acquainted with the shadow things.

I call them "things" because I do not wish to dignify them by calling them people; nor do I wish to allow them more fear than they deserve by calling them demons. They are too weak for such a title, although I now know they are often malicious.

One of them tried to strangle me.

Briefly, my friends and I were hired to remodel an abandoned house in a rural area of Ohio. Because it was a twenty mile drive into town, and two hours from our homes, we decided to stay at the house. All of us, three males and one female would see these things flitting up and down the back staircase - always right at the periphery of our vision. We dismissed them as floaters, too much work, and not enough rest...

My friends ended up sleeping in the dining room and bedroom across the hall, I "lucked out" and got the master bedroom - complete with its putrid 1980's fuchsia carpet.

There were some old dressers, and a small bureau in the room, as well as a full size bed. I remember being very tired and falling asleep without any problem. Around 3:15 A.M. I woke up with someone's hands around my throat. I thought it was my friends playing a weird joke, but when I struggled to push it away and get the lights on I saw it was simply a featureless, black, human-shaped form. I was absolutely not asleep. All I remember is fighting the thing with a fury. At the time I was shocked, but I was too angry at being attacked in my sleep and pumping too much adrenaline to be afraid. I remember cursing furiously, and doing my best to beat it to a pulp. I remember it was horribly strong, and it STANK.

In the morning, my friends found me unconscious on the floor. The room was wrecked. The dressers had been smashed to splinters, and my friend said it looked like "Godzilla had fought Gork in here" . No one had heard a thing. Later, we heard someone had committed suicide in the house in the 1950's.

After it was over, and I had time think about it, THEN I got scared.

Here is all the additional info I can think of -

I tried to explain this away as a night terror, or sleep paralysis. However, I was not asleep. Things that I remember being broken in the fight, werein fact broken

A researcher told me it is classic for a "hagging"incident. It looked like a shadow - not a hag of any kind.

My parents are separated.

There was a lot of turmoil in my life at the time.

It was October 28th

I was not drinking or doing drugs - honestly, I wish I had been.

Female members of my mothers family have often been psychic/mediums/had experiences

My great grandfather was a seer/dowser

Two therapists I've seen in Arizona for sports injuries at different times were of Yaqui Indian heritage. Both told me that some of my ailments were caused by contact with evil spirits. These therapists never met each other, and came up with this out of the blue.

Both also told me I had abilities and could do shamanistic work if I applied myself. I don't do this because it scares me

I have seen ghosts twice, heard them frequently, and had a very sad prophetic dream

I think the shadow things are attracted by misery. If you are in a state of flux they show up to enjoy your turmoil - like Romans going to watch Christians being thrown to the lions. I suspect I was attacked because it knew I was aware of it, even if vaguely.

I hope some of this is useful. I know if your experiences have been anything like mine, it is good to share them if only to clear the air.

Hello and thank you for sharing your experience with me and everyone here. While we try to stay on topic, sometimes other things come up regarding the same subject and we end up discussing those things as well.

You are quite right. These things are not people, they are not human and they do not deserve any status if they are going to be malicious towards us. The problem I have is that God created them just like he created us - so ancient texts tell us - so there should be mutual respect between us and them. The problem is, IMO, that they are jealous of us.

This is a horrible experience. I am glad that you were able to fight it off and were able to wake up to fight it. I have heard stories of people being killed in their sleep.

What did it smell like? Can you describe the smell?

The Native American Indians are known to have knowledge of these entities and do blame them for illness and ailments - whether this is true or not I do not know.

Both also told me I had abilities and could do shamanistic work if I applied myself. I don't do this because it scares me
This is a personal choice. Not many people have this gift, but you could begin gently by doing some research. It's nothing to be scared of. If you know how to protect yourself, which you do... you will be fine. Not all entities attack.

I have seen ghosts twice, heard them frequently, and had a very sad prophetic dream

Yes... they certainly love negativity and do enjoy showing up to cause mayhem and fear. The key is to stay in a positive state of mind, live in a clean home/environment in order to keep them away. They are also attracted to dirty and empty or abandonned places where they can revel in the filth.

I hope some of this is useful. I know if your experiences have been anything like mine, it is good to share them if only to clear the air.
Yes. Absolutely. Being able to share your experience with others even if on the internet is a great release and I find it theraputic.

So were you able to finish this job? Did you have to explain to anyone what happened to the furniture? Did all of your co-workers believe you when you told them what happened? Do you think that you were able to injure this entity or do you think that you killed it? Seen it since then?

Hello Seven,

It smelled dank. Musty, old leaves, old wood, stale water. Like a swamp, or an old cellar. Sorry, but that is all I can remember.

"You are quite right. These things are not people, they are not human and they do not deserve any status if they are going to be malicious towards us. I don't know if God created them, or they were here before the Creation, or they exist outside of our world? You are referring to the Gnostic texts?

The researcher I spoke with said he suspects many deaths are due to similiar incidents.

I have studied these things a great deal. I do not pursue psychic endeavors because I do not want to be "a believer". If I believe, then I must acknowledge that a spirit/entity/thing tried to kill me. That, in turn, leads to other things that must be considered, pondered, and ethically examined. That would, in turn, lead to a new world view, etc. I am happier learning enough to protect myself from unwanted intrusions, and assume this was a one -time "strange experience". If ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise...

To state it briefly, I am a coward.

We did finish the job. We had to pay $150 for the old dressers. The girl believed me. She was terrified of the house. The guys, being guys, joked around and wanted to know where I kept my weed. But they refused to allow me to pay for the dressers by myself. Later, I spoke to one of them and he told me he thought the house was a "very bad place".

Did I kill it? Injure it? Can such things be killed? I think it was shocked that anything could fight back for more than ten seconds. I do think it was injured, but more by my resistance than physical strength. I think it ran off into the night. Good Riddance!

This is interesting that they have an odor.

I am referring to the Koran. Apparently they are God's creatures just like we are. They live in our world but are supposed to remain invisible. Of course, some of them do not and continue to harass humans.

*shame* that you feel this way. As far as I can tell from what you say, you are no coward if you faced it and fought it. If you had not, it sounds like it may have killed you.

People have posted on this thread that we can hurt them, injure them and even kill them by doing just what you did by fighting back and attacking it. It will have physicality while manifesting and it will be vulnerable in that state. Apparently you can choke it and I have read somewhere during my research that they can be killed by pouring boiling water on them. Whatever you did to fight it, sounds like it was the right thing to do and must have come from your instincts. Perhaps you did injure or kill it without knowing.

Hello Seven,

The one I encountered had a very definite odor. Never could figure out why a shadow would have an odor?

Sufi Islam has lots of ghosts/spirits/demons. So does Buddhism with its "hungry ghosts" (some of whom share many characteristics of shadow things). Also the Navajo chindi, the shades of ancient Greece and Rome, and the Tsalmaveth (death-like shadow, deep shadow) of Hebrew belief.

You are kind to think I am not a coward; all I know is that I never want to cross paths with one of things again.

I hope that others are right, and I am wrong, and they can be hurt by physically fighting back. My instinct from what happened says otherwise, but arguing in support of others views and against my own is the fact that it fled. I still cannot believe it is that "easy". Exceptionally poor choice of words, but you know what I mean.

Dear 7 of 7-

On another thread on this site someone mentioned a Ghost Hunters episode from way back in 2006.  They investigated a light house in Florida.  I actually watched that particular show, didn’t realize it’s already been over 5 years.   Anyway, in the light house they catch a Shadow Person, well; they’re calling it a shadow person.

Here’s the link, starts about the 2:05 minute mark

What do you think?

Background: Ghost Hunters is a weekly TV program that comes on the SciFy (Science Fiction) channel.
I think it’s the first show dedicated to ghost hunting, where as other shows would cover a variety of paranormal during the hour.  I’m sure that that someone here knows if it is or isn’t

Enjoy…

These entites live and travel in groups so questionable why there was only one in this video.Could be something.... only Jason and Grant know for sure as they were there. I will say that that this show is for entertainment purposes so I am not holding my breath on this one.

Hello 71Barracuda,

The movement looks wrong compared to what I've encountered. Too fast, and I saw mine in better lighting conditions.

Interesting name, BTW. I had a 70 convertible, 383 auto. Wish that car had survived.

It does not look like what I saw. Do you think this is genuine video, in your opinion?

If this is a shadow entity, it would be moving too fast to be caught on a camera, and also it would not be alone. There would be several others with it. Shadows are not ghosts. If this is a ghost then I suppose it could potentially be evidence, imo.

Do the shadows or hat men speak to anyone? After reading only a little bit of this info I'm reminded of the Indrid Cold case from West Virginia.

These things did not speak to me. I heard no sound, no noises, nothing. What is the Indrid Cold case from West Virginia?
