Shocking violence and abuse suffered by thousands of workers in food factories supplying major supermarkets

Thousands of workers in Britain's food factories are subjected to serious mistreatment including bullying, physical violence and threats, a report reveals today.

An inquiry by the Equality and Human Rights Commission found evidence of shocking abuse in factories supplying major supermarkets, where some staff work up to 90 hours a week in degrading conditions.

A fifth of workers questioned by EHRC said they had been pushed, kicked or had things thrown at them, while a third had witnessed or been on the receiving end of verbal abuse.
