Wow, those giant squids are certainly formidable critters. I say we just leave them alone...seems like a plan to me.

This is total BS the SS Matsonia was sold to Greek breakers in July 1977and broken up in February 1978 after a fire at the yard. The ship was not sunk by a Kraken. SS Malolo was her first name and was changed to the SS Matsonia in 1937. The ship worked as a troop ship in WW2 and then back in service as a liner until she was sold as scrap in 1977. I built an RC model of this ship and know a hell of a lot about her since I had to study her plans and history in great detail to build it.

Hmm, lots of misinformation on these ships apparently. According to Wiki the Matsonia was built by Newport News Ship building in 1913 and sold in 1937, being renamed the Etolin.

The Matson companies webpage names numerous ships purchased or built through the early years, Emma Claudina, Roderick Dhu, Enterprise, Lurline in 1908, Whilhelmina in 1910, Maui in 1917 (with no mention of a Matsonia in 1913) Manukai and Manulani in 1921, then the Malalo in 1927. They do mention the Malolo serving Hawaii in the same paragraph. The their passenger era section starts by naming their 4 "White Ships" Lurline, Matsonia (both serving Hawaii), Monterey and Mariposa. and then immediately starts talking about the Malolo again after not mentioning it among those four. However it says the Monterey is renamed the Matsonia in 1957, which is then changed to the Lurline (after selling the original Lurline) in 1963.

Clearly there has been at LEAST 2 ships named the Matsonia over the years. Perhaps more if there's any accuracy to the information on the wiki page. That being the case, despite the obvious ridiculous claims this guy seems to make in every video I find of him. Perhaps he could be talking about a different ship than the one you are referring to?

The Navy says they had a Matsonia in 1913 too, looks like the wiki entry is copied straight from the Navy Historical Center information.

The kraken used tobe a tale about a large creature. So large than when a approaching ship came to close, and the beast being shy would dive into the water, it would cause a whirlpool strong enough to pull the boat and it's men under.

The picture of the Matsonia he refers to with the giant squid under it is the refit Malolo which was built by the Matson Line.
You can tell this by the stacks deck arrangement and general lines of the ship.
Yes other ships can carry the same or similar names over the years but if you are trying to trace a particular ship down stay away from wiki and contact a ship historian and the international “ship register”, on top of this the original ship wrights and refit yards tend to have copies of the ships plans and the dates changers were made to them.
