some new guy Posted October 13, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 13, 2014 Pareidolia (/pærɨˈdoʊliə/ parr-i-DOH-lee-ə) is a psychological phenomenon involving a vague and random stimulus (often an image or sound) being perceived as significant. Common examples include seeing images of animals or faces in clouds, the man in the moon or the Moon rabbit, and hearing hidden messages on records when played in reverse. The word comes from the Greek words para (παρά, "beside, alongside, instead") in this context meaning something faulty, wrong, instead of; and the noun eidōlon (εἴδωλον "image, form, shape") the diminutive of eidos. Pareidolia is a type of apophenia, seeing patterns in random data http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareidolia The Face On Mars, Jesus on a taco, The Old Man Of The Mountain and a bunny rabbit in the clouds - this is a photos only thread dedicated to pareidolia - please feel free to post images of your favorite examples of pareidolia and please try to include some sort of documentation, the source of the photo, links, etc because its my avatar, let me start with the infamous S.S. Watertown ghost photo - from 1925, it depicts 2 sailors who passed away and buried at sea - their ghosts can be seen in the waves alongside the ship and here it is again without the arrows....... there is debate this may not be a true example of pareidolia (faces in the waves) but an early example of photoshop - it becomes apparent when looking at the photo without the arrows, note the rigging (ropes) below the left-most face - this is a well researched photo and here are links to a couple of articles....... http://www.forteantimes.com/features/fbi/3256/the_watertown_ghosts.html http://newsfromthespiritworld.com/2012/05/09/ghostly-pics-s-s-watertown-ghosts/ and if you are so inclined, here is a link to an entertaining youtube video debunking the photo..... and though it is rarely discussed, is that a third face found in the photo? take a look just to the left of the left-most arrow............ seeder Posted October 13, 2014 #3 Share Posted October 13, 2014 Heres one I posted earlier on another section With a stern expression and his eyes firmly fixed across the Devon landscape, this cliff formation bears resemblance to a wizened old man.The similarity to a hardened and wrinkled face on the cliff edge was spotted by local James Norton near Salcombe, in South Devon. The image was posted by Mr Norton on the Toad Hall Cottages Facebook page and attracted more than 500 'likes' and numerous comments. One compared the formation to the fictional character Treebeard from Lord of the Rings. http://www.dailymail...l#ixzz3Fwpqlq7O
aka CAT Posted October 13, 2014 #4 Share Posted October 13, 2014 (edited) Y'all, All in all, great photos. Have you seen these ones? http://christianmedi...devil-face.html Interesting, though I cannot force myself to 'like' anything re: 911.Seeder, I can but associate orchids with Eros. The birdlike blooms are marvelous! Edited October 13, 2014 by aka CAT

If you aren't sure if an image is copyrighted then link to the page that it's on rather than to the image directly. Thank you.
