i have been in the fenced off building (La Rundle) and the mont park many years ago with three others, i spook easy and can be overly paranoid in strange places that are all busted and spray painted to look like bad **** happened there but sadly nothing to report from either building except maybe a crack head or two.
we also went into one of the red brick buildings described in another post a double story it was a bit like a decrepid dark labrynth in those old houses we had to tare down a peice of sheet metal to get in when we got to the top of the stairs and walked through 2 of the many rooms that all seemed to intertwine my brother (one of the three) yelled "**** run! go! GO! GO! GO!" so we all **** ourselfs bolted down the stairs jumped out the window and jumped in the car my cousin blocking my path to the car stoped to looked back and screamed "oh my god!" and jumped in the car i was last, i also looked back and could have sworn i saw a person standing by the house which made me get in the car faster we speed off with hysterical rambalings and chatter going nuts.

my cousin said she saw someone back by the house she rationalised it was me she saw as i was last out, but i was right behind her in fact i pushed her out the window and when she turned and screamed i was beside her overtaking her to the car.
it was probably a junkie squating in the house or nearby if either of us saw anything at all.

so why did my brother yell to run? he saw a security car through a busted window heading down that street and thought it was the cops none of us knew this till after we were pulled over by security a hundered yards down said road, we told him we were just driving around takin a look (mind you all dressed like ninjas) security told us not to enter any buildings and told us we should be on our way now so got off easy i suppose.

in short i saw nothing there, but it is a frightening place just knowing that back in the day they put all the crazies in there shame that half of them probably werent really crazy wasnt la rundle an asylum for young girls diagnosed as complete tare your eyes out crazy?
in saying that if you werent nuts being there would have made you so.

were talking at least ten tears back parts were still fenced off but easy enough to get into back then i doubt that you will get far these days though.
Even Jesus WTF'd...

Yeah security is still there, they're okay though - they don't wanna call the cops on you, but if you're gunna be a smart*** about it then they probably will. I've spoken to a few of them (no, not after being busted inside the buildings lol, although once was after a lucky escape out of the grounds just before they turned up) and they're mostly on the look out for druggies and that trying to find somewhere to hide out.

I'm not sure whether La Rundel was originally for young girls or not, but I do actually know someone who had a male relative admitted to La Rundel with a mental illness a few years before it was closed down, so even if it was originally just for women it didn't stay that way.

Yeah, each building is fenced off and there is another fence around the grounds now, although at one end of the grounds there is no fence, and at the other there is a gate so getting into the grounds is easy enough (as proven by my friends and I having been in there quite a few times). When you're in the grounds you can see places in the fences around the buildings where holes have been cut into the wire or where its been lifted up and saggy, so even getting through those fences wouldn't be that hard. The windows and doorways on the lower levels all look to be boarded up nowadays, but again, people have bashed holes through the boards or pulled them out to get into the buildings. I can't say I'd be too thrilled at having to climb through a tiny hole just to get a glimpse inside, but it would be fascinating to get a look, and photos or video footage, all the same.

Hi there ,

I took a few photos of some of the Larundel buildings yesterday before security told me to leave.

I have added some spooky music for an effect and uploaded the photos onto youtube as a slideshow

Closeup examination of the photos detects what appears to be human faces in 2 of the windows (circled)

No paintshop or trick photography

Paranormal or shadow / reflection ? , make your own mind up

Cheers Neil

Hi Sons.Of.Liberty92, La Rundel is not actually on Plenty Rd - it's on the edge of an estate that has it's entrance on Plenty Rd. If you get to Smorgies, apparently on the opposite side of the road is a court or something that ends right at an entrance to La Rundel (I've never actually been in through that way though, so don't hold me to that). The way I usually go is through the estate (I can't remember the name for the life of me though, I haven't been there in ages). If you turn right at the first roundabout and keep going pretty much any street going off to the right will go around near the buildings. But yeah, just be warned that security do patrol every so often and if you're making a lot of noise the people in the houses next door and around La Rundel won't hesitate to call the cops.

And thanks for the photos captainnuzza, it really is a creepy place even just during the day. I have been meaning to go back myself and take photos and possibly video for a while, but with uni and work I just haven't been able to find the time (as well as someone who wants to come with me - I've been there once by myself and I will never go by myself again). I had trouble seeing the face in the first image, but I could definitely see something in the second one you had circled. Without zooming in or anything though I don't know whether to say it's a face or not - but definitely odd because you wouldn't think something would be there. So security patrol during the day too? That's something to note, I didn't know that. Did you feel anything when you were there? And your initial instincts?

Thanks guys!!

Hi Amariel ,

I was reluctant to get any closer to the buildings , it was a sunny afternoon and I was alone , it was so quiet that I could hear my ears ringing when there was a break in nearby traffic.
A slight breeze rattled the corrigated iron on the front of the building and that gave me the creeps , I seemed to sense the presence of security and I was right.
I returned at night but the photos didn't turn out very good , then again during the day via Sanctury Drv and Gonella Crs at the rear.

Large new signs reading (PRIVATE PROPERTY - TRESSPASSERS PROSECUTED) have now been placed all over the fencing , so I wont be entering the site again for photos or video , they could legally have me charged now.

However .... I cannot legally be stopped from photoing from the street .

Salutations to my Friends Down Under from Pennsylvania in the United States!

Though I am half a world away I have Visited many of the Beautifully Decrepit Asylums in your neck of the woods. I traveled all over as an Urban explorer, from Russia and Europe and a bit in South America.

I have a few recommendations for you Amariel. I can see your in the Victoria, so here goes: Though I assume you know all these already;

My Personal Favorite was Beechworth a beautiful white building with striking features and a great kicker, Ha-Ha Walls, we used them in the States to!!! And easy to get into since it is still in use, and does offer ghost tours!

Another great was Sunbury Asylum in... Well Yeah Sunbury. You have to see the beauty of it yourself!!

These are to must see's. Just throwing that out there, and Hell if your ever in the States, Message me, We have several Closed out Hospitals in the Area. I used to work at a place call Greystone Park as a guard in New Jersey....... G Park

Just a few I suggest in your neck of the woods.

MMM
You think I am right behind you, But I wouldn't look over your shoulder!

I've heard stories from various people over the years of signs being posted on the fences at La Rundel, but every time I've been there I haven't seen any. Of course, if new ones have been put up recently (I haven't been their in ages so I don't know) I don't think I'll be venturing in (at least without permission) anytime soon.
I do want to take photos from the street though, just out of my own interest and curiosity. And you're right - they can't stop us from doing that =)

I've been the Beechworth a number or times over my life but I can't recall that building. I'll have to look into it. And I've done a couple of ghost tours before and can't say I thought they were fantastic. A lot of smoke and mirrors in my opinion, entertaining but I never expect anything to come of them.
And quite a few people have told me to go to Sunbury Asylum, I know someone who used to live in Sunbury and has said that even just going passed the place is creepy. I'd love to take a look and one day I'll have to make sure I do.

I'v been to both Lurundel, and Mont park.
Lurundel's got 24/7 security now, theres only one way into the building. Every 15 -20 minutes security do a lap of the buildings, mostly the main one, on the far left, the biggest.
The building is mosty wrecked on the in side, yet still scary and spooky, they are mostly covered in graffiti, it is well worth going there, the photography can be amazing, there slowly knocking the frist one down, it will be a few years till the others are down as well. i recently spoke to the builders, they dont care about you going into or near the buildings, but that was just before security was there.
Mont park is very close to lurundel and looks very a like as it, the buildings are the same , besides mont park has some cream colour on the top story, mont park is being used as some class rooms for latrobe and epa.
there are only a few left, there no security when the times i go, there really no way into the building, all are boarded up, impossible to get into. with a latrobe class room building in the middle. of them all.
i'v taken many of photos of both asylums, if you wood like to see, theres pretty good photo's !

So before I write any of this I want to stress that I am not crazy, religious, etc, nor did I believe in ghosts or paranormal things such as this before any of this happened.
I came across your thread looking for photos of the old place and I normally wouldn't bother writing back to these types of things but when you mentioned the 'music box' playing my hair stood on end.
About 10 years ago in my teenage years, I lived in Macleod, my house backed right on to the nature reserve which backed on to Mont Park. Needless to say, my friends and I spent many days exploring this old place and I will recount to you the things that have stuck in my mind.
The first is one time when we were mucking around in one of the houses inside the park on cherry st.
At this stage I didn't believe in ghosts and there were some red curtains on the ground. I know this sounds silly, but I was bored... I arranged them to make a circle on the ground and then placed some Salada crackers in the middle of the circle. I then started using the loose sticks of grout from around the fireplace to jokingly spell the words 'help yourselves'. I got up to 'help your..' and turned to pick up more grout and when I turned back a second later the 'y' was missing, now spelling "help our". I asked my friends if they had done it as a joke but they thought it was stupid, 'why would we do that?' they asked. I knew anyway that it hadn't been them because they were on the other side of the room and wouldn't have had time to do it, plus I would have noticed them walk over.  I have attached a bird's eye view diagram to give you an idea of how it all looked. Please note the 'Help Our' would have been upside down and facing me. (sorry about awful drawing.)
Another time three friends and myself were at the park in the middle of the night, (around midnight) years after the park was closed down and abandoned. I have to be honest and say we had had a couple of joints, but all four of us could collaborate each other's story at the same time.
We were hanging around our car in the asylum outside a building that was either this building or one that looked much like it.
www.eidolonparanormal.net/apps/forums/topics/show/2899018-bundoora-larundel-mental-asylum"

I soon started hearing very strange music, like something you might hear at a very old fashioned circus, it made me think of one of those carts with the mini organs on them. It wasnt until I read this post about the music box that I realized that I wasn't the only person who must have heard this! At the time I had no idea what type of instrument was playing. I have had a quick look on wikipedia and the closest I can come to it is this. http://www.archive.o...icBox-Sammy1903
The instrument is right but the tune was much more 'circusey' Anyway, VERY ****ING CREEPY!
Although I was the only one who could hear the music, a light switched on in the far top right room, and all of us saw it and were like WTF? I was really scared by then and wanted to leave but the others wanted to investigate. I could still hear the music and it sounded as if it was coming from exactly that room.
I was begging, almost crying that we leave, and as the others stared at the light coming from the room to see who had turned it on, a 'man' appeared and started 'gliding' up the steps you can see in the pic. When I say he appeared I mean, he came out of no where. He then proceeded to glide up the steps with his back to us, (he had no feet, his legs just kind of hovered about 10cms off the ground and then kind of faded towards where his feet should have been.) he never turned to look at us, all we saw was the back of him. He got to the top and disappeared just as quickly as he had appeared. At that moment, we all scrambled into the car, slamming and locking the doors as the driver took off. We all saw the guy, at the same time. We could even describe to each other exactly what he was wearing, as in I said he was wearing a blue flannel shirt and the others could describe his stonewashed jeans and long mullet haircut, which I could confirm too. And we all knew he had no feet!
We got out of there and after that I never went back after dark.
Although it was 10 years ago, you don't forget something like that.
A few other things happened such as doors slamming and candles going out even though there was no wind and most of the time we were inside, but nothing as significant as that. It is such a shame they knocked the place down, it has such a history and is such a magical place, but I can't believe people pay to live on the site in the new estates. If you ask me they are the crazy ones!

Wow Ruddy that is quite a story!! I cannot honestly say that I have ever experienced anything like that when I've been to any of the buildings, and if I had've there is no way I would be going back.

I really do need to get my butt into gear and get back out there and have another poke around. Might try and convince my completely skeptical boyfriend to come with me lol.

Yeah, well like I said, nothing as significant as that happened during the day, just strange things like slamming doors etc, so I guess maybe you would have to go at night, although I don't know how easy that would be these days with the estates going up.
