  • They warn Mr Cameron will encourage dictators to suppress their newspapers

David Cameron has been urged to drop his plans to regulate the Press because they ‘run counter to bedrock principles of a democracy’.

Some of America’s leading journalists have written to the Prime Minister saying he will encourage dictators around the world to suppress their newspapers unless he takes a ‘step back’ from creating a new watchdog backed up by statute.

Their letter warns that Britain will lose its ‘moral authority’ to criticise authoritarianism elsewhere if it brings in a statutory response to the Leveson Inquiry into Press standards.

If they start regulating what the press says then how will you know if they are telling the whole truth. When people start reading between the lines their conclusion may be much worse than it really is. This would be a blow to democracy.

Whata load of ****. trying to curb the evil of the Sun (which is truly evil, a nasty, horrible, spiteful, vindictive piece of rag) will encourage dictators? these "leading journalists", they couldn't all be employed the the Murdoch empire, could they?

basic rule of thumb: if it's in the Sun, it isn't.

Its more about stopping the press doing the following.

Lying.

Cheating.

Stealing.

Willfully causing harm in the name of profit.

Breaking the Law.

Threatening people.

Trying to control people/organisation/the government for its own ends.

Its things like hacking into the voicemails/phones of missing school children, rape victims, political figures and stealing infomation which is then used in damaging stories which cause great harm to those effected. Its wrong, plain and simple.
