A kickabout in the park might leave many dads suffering after their exertions, but it could have deadly consequences for toddlers – according to EU officials.

Toy footballs now have to be stamped with a warning that they are a choking hazard for the under-threes, despite the balls being  bigger than an adult’s head.

The brightly coloured plastic balls with a circumference of 25in – just under the size used in the Premier League – come with the caution: ‘Warning! Not suitable for children under three years. Choking hazard.’

Oh brother.

'A phantom,' said my Uncle Mycroft, who had just materialised, 'is essentially a heteromorphic wave pattern that gains solidity when the apparition converts thermal energy from the surroundings to visible light. It's a fascinating process and I'm amazed no one has thought of harnessing it - a holographic TV that could operate from the heat given off by an average-size guinea pig.' ~ First Among Sequels, Jasper Fforde

Remember that this is the same EU which last year said that Britain isn't an island and which once banned bent bananas.

Anybody would think we were talking about tennis balls or those gizmos you find in Kinder eggs.
It's just not physically possible for a toddler or for that matter any age group to choke on a full-sized football.
In fact I don't think there's a creature that could either because they go for stuff they recognise as food.
Unless your a dog but even their voracious appetite dosn't extend to full-sized footballs.
In fact dogs have great difficulty holding them in their mouths least at all swallow them.
So if your playing footie with your son in the park there's no sudden need to memorise the Heinrich manoeuvre.
I did say something about throwing the PC brigade overboard if there's a sudden deluge...
Now you know why!

Anything that has to do with soccer should have a 'warning: this sucks' label on it.

This then begs the question:

Is having too much time on their hands bad for an official from any government department/ think tank?   Talk about having idle thoughts....!
