Anomalocaris Posted August 27, 2015 #1 Share Posted August 27, 2015 (edited) A new study shows the fossil of a bird-like dinosaur possesses intact melanosomes and the pigment they produced, proof that ancient dino remains can offer clues to their coloration. Lucas Cooper Merrin Posted August 29, 2015 #2 Share Posted August 29, 2015 Birds have a huge spectrum of colours and patterns,so i would presume dinosaurs would have have had the same variations

travelnjones Posted September 1, 2015 #6 Share Posted September 1, 2015 Why wouldn't you look at the coloration of existing birds as a reference? Nearly all large birds are dark in color or kind of a brindle like the emu. I have no idea what environment that zebra dino above fits into.

PersonFromPorlock Posted September 3, 2015 #8 Share Posted September 3, 2015 You know, it just occurred to me that feathers on a ground-living dinosaur might have served as a sort of ghillie suit, breaking up its outline; very useful for either predator or prey. Could be how feathers got started before they evolved for flight.
