slooky Posted June 12, 2011 #1 Share Posted June 12, 2011 I went hiking last week and took a picture of some trees with the sun shining through. When I got home I noticed that the picture had this blue thing in it. Anybody have any idea what it might be?

vitruvian12 Posted June 12, 2011 #3 Share Posted June 12, 2011 this is the cropped photo Its out of focus so its hard to identify what the object might be surrounded by a distorted reflection

greywolf Posted June 12, 2011 #7 Share Posted June 12, 2011 might be light filtering through the trees?

meimei Posted June 12, 2011 #10 Share Posted June 12, 2011 it looks very pretty indeed, but i guess it's only lens flare, since you were taking photos of the sun shining through the trees.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lens_flare
SolarPlexus Posted June 12, 2011 #11 Share Posted June 12, 2011 Doesnt look like a typical lens flare to me

slooky Posted June 12, 2011 Author #14 Share Posted June 12, 2011 I guess it could be lens flare, but not really typical of lens flare
bunji Posted June 12, 2011 #15 Share Posted June 12, 2011 awesome pic even if it is just lens flare or something like that and not paranormal. (not sure what it is myself)
Pax Unum Posted June 12, 2011 #16 Share Posted June 12, 2011 I guess it could be lens flare, but not really typical of lens flare From seeing the whole picture, I'd guess it's a diffraction artifact... IMO
slooky Posted June 12, 2011 Author #17 Share Posted June 12, 2011 Lens flare would be on the lens, also if it was on the lens, and you cropped the photo it would be very distorted. Whatever it is, it is closer to the ground not closer to the lens.
Oppono Astos Posted June 12, 2011 #18 Share Posted June 12, 2011 After seeing the full image, that's lens flare.

vitruvian12 Posted June 13, 2011 #20 Share Posted June 13, 2011 It definately looks like a reflection to me, maybe there was something on the ground? Im no photography expert, how can you tell its not lens flare? And why would cropping it distort an already taken picture?

Whatever it is, it is closer to the ground not closer to the lens. Huh? The entire picture is taken through the lens.
Moonie2012 Posted June 13, 2011 #22 Share Posted June 13, 2011 (edited) I second that. This thing is not on the lens. +1 You do realize every single part of a picture comes through the lens? This is nothing but a lens flare/distortion artifact. The fact that it points toward the light source demonstrates this. Purplos Posted June 13, 2011 #24 Share Posted June 13, 2011 Lens flare makes sense, but it could just be a bug. I've seen bug pictures like that before, though not so blue. Shrug
SolarPlexus Posted June 13, 2011 #25 Share Posted June 13, 2011 I second that. This thing is not on the lens. +1 You do realize every single part of a picture comes through the lens? I know i meant it does look like it's there physically, and not an artifact on the lens it points toward the light source Yes i must agree. Then its probably a lens flare but a very atypical one! I googled 'lens flare' images and none is like that one
