War has always been a political weapon. It has been used to gain power, prestige and more importantly, money. However, technology has improved so much in military aspects that the force modifier for it is much greater than any point in history. Thanks to America and it's vastly over-funded MIC, they have been able to rapidly out-pace the rest of the world in terms of military hardware (However, when you spend more on your MIC than the rest of the world combined, you kinda expect it, also, not always good stuff is made, the Bradley is an example as well as Colt M16). War technology has gone from pure power and mass killing, to high-tech and reducing the amount of personal in direct contact with the enemy. That's why unmanned drones, artillery and aircraft have been improved so much. Thanks to America stealing British Jet Engine plans in 1940, they have progressed rapidly in producing powerful jet fighters to escort powerful bombers. Precision missiles, drones, guided bombs. It's all about maximum damage for as little personal needed. It's also why Aircraft Carriers are a mark of your military power.
War will disappear, as in, two sides fighting each other in a town/field/place. It will all be about covert missions, groups of highly trained individuals fighting to remove a opponents military infrastructure and capabilities. These men and women will be supported with high-tech equipment, making them much more effective. The future will also mean the rise of the CyberWarfare programs around the world. What better way to defeat your opponent by turning off or corrupting his entire military with a simple virus? That way, with them gone, you use your un-manned equipment and powerful jets, to threaten and loom over your defeated foe. With such a force against conventional weapons like men and guns, the foe will either fight a losing war, or surrender.
War, my friends, will never go away. Besides, we need people to fight the aliens! WHAT WOULD WE DO WITHOUT MURRICA?!
