Was most likely a hardware issue with his phone, or a software issue. Just because you "believe" the story, that doesn't indicate that it was anything from "beyond the grave".
It doesn't indicate anything either way.
IMO belief and scepticisim are opposite ends of a spectrum finding conflicting answers to the same problem.
Ghost in the machine? Clitch in the machine?
It's a mystery either way.

I received calls from the future and the past but nothing paranormal about that. The date and time settings on her phone were 3 months into the future and showed up like that on my phone as missed call. I thought that was funny so I told her to change the settings and call me again. Now missed call from 1912. Dont ask me how that is possible technic wise but sure isnt anything paranormal. Also happens when I get calls from another timezone but I still like my galaxy haha

This reminds me when I look at old digital photos I've taken. Photos that date to the year 2022. I have never taken the time (no pun intended) to set the date/time to the correct settings on the camera. So when the actual year 2022 rolls around, I'll have absolutely no clue actually when those photos were taken.

*mental note: set correct date/time on all all devices.

Kinda is a useless story unless you have a phone number to trace.

Yeh the whole story's a beat up, It says in the article that they called there phone provider who said,
(he says, thought he was nuts. He asked "Is an error like this possible?" Her response, "Obviously it's possible if it happened?" No help there?)
This is simply not true, In this days and age all phone calls and text messages are logged, The phone provider would of had access to all calls to and from that number, what times calls were made and location's of calls. This happened Washington in 2012, The technology to do this had been around for a long time and was there was in place at the time.

Sorry, but ive just cast my eye over this, total BS IMO.

It doesnt mean that the call was from 1980, the phone thinks it was 1980.

Just managed to set my W995i to 10th march 1979.

So if the phone was set to an earlier or later date and a call was received it would be logged as that date.

Um, I've had two phones do that.  1 said I received a text from my brother dated 1967, and a missed call from a girlfriend saying it was in the 70s.  Just a glitch in the phone.
