The article doesn't give the detective's age, but I'd be willing to offer money on a bet that he's 'filling in' the time left to his pension with a nice, quiet little job that won't involve him in any unpleasantness like getting shot. Good for him, I say!

Thanks for sharing Brian, one of my favorite mystery !
The possibility that the two brothers murdered Morris is intriguing. There have been plenty of alleged sightings of the Anglin brothers ( most of them in Brazil ), but to my knowledge nobody ever claim to have seen Frank Morris alive.
I always had the feeling that they made it. Part of me is still skeptical ( I often ask myself if the raft they made was strong enough ), but I think there's a very good chance that they survived the escape. The fact the FBI never closed the case is proof that they too believe that the three inmates could have made it.

Here's a great documentary about the Case:
Thanks for the video Jon...its always intrigued me this escape. In a strange way i would like them to have actually survived just to dispel the myth of Alcatraz....mans ingenuity to survive is what makes me hope they did actually make it..
I'd like to think they made it but I know they didn't. Will be visitng Alcatraz myself later this year so I'm really interested in posts about the prison.

Hi Antilles it has been a while..Yeah they reckon that the currents would have taken them way away from the shore but i suppose because no bodies were ever found there is still that tiny chance they made it.Its one place id love to go to to be honest with you but its a wee bit far for me..you should take pictures though and post them up...be good to see.Hope you enjoy yourself Antilles...

I'm really looking forward to visiting San Francisco and The Rock has to be Number One on my list of places to visit.
Thanks to jon for his great vid.
As always, where does he find this stuff?
Friends of mine visited Alcatraz and Angel island last year which is, so I understand, where the inmates were probably headed.
But I watched a vid on the escape which posited that the Anglin Brothers and Morris would have been swept under the Golden Gate bridge and out to sea.
I'm like you. After all the planning I would really have liked them to have made it. But they didn't. I'm sure.

Yes in the documentary i watched,it said they thought they were trying to get to Angel Island but the current would have just swept them away.It turned out to be the final nail in Alcatraz's coffin mind cause it closed a year later i think. To be honest with you...i dont think i could handle the hills of San Francisco so youre a braver man than me.lol..I hope you have a really great time Antilles..
On Youtube, dear friend ! Same here, San Francisco is one city I really want to visit. Alcatraz, the Zodiac's crime scenes....Very interesting city.
Since the 80's there have been plenty of alleged sightings of the Anglin brothers in Brazil. Now how many of these sightings are reliable I don't know, but at one time the FBI had many leads. Back in the mid-80's a bartender in Brazil said that one of the Anglin brothers was living in the area, and the FBI sent investigators there, they spent weeks trying to locate the brother but never found him.
A lot of people believe that a boat was waiting for the three inmates on the night they escaped. Former inmate Clarence Carnes claims that the three inmates got help from Bumpy Johnson, one of the most powerful gangster in Harlem back in the 50's and 60's, and that Johnson sent a boat to pick up the inmates and then associates of Johnson provided them with clothes, money and possibly a car. Now Carnes is not the most reliable source, but it is true that Johnson was on Alcatraz at the time of the escape, and I have read that he was friend with Morris. So who knows, it's a good possibility.
Here's my favorite documentary about the case, the Unsolved Mysteries segment about the escape:

If you'll be going during the summer, I highly recommend you look into getting tickets for the boat ride out there ahead of time. Friends and I wanted to visit when we spent a week in SF a few years ago and thought we could just get tickets and go once we were there. They were sold out for the entire week. I only got to see it from a distance.
Illegal immigration isn't a new concept in the US. Just ask the Native Americans.

Is still a open case until they are caught. Nice way to go into retirement chasing ghosts. If the 3 did make it they went to South America to live out their lifes. That is where I would have headed. Just a thought.
