Ebola burial team attacked

How will they ever get Ebola stopped, or at least under control, if they don't stop attacking health workers? It seems like every time you turn around something like this or worse happens. Its dangerous to try to combat this disease, its a miracle they get any volunteers anymore.

Health workers in Sierra Leone have come under attack while trying to bury the bodies of five Ebola victims east of the capital, a police official said.

We seem to be getting a hard earned lesson in the nature of disease spread in a populace that operates on myths and superstition rather than accepting reality and facts.

Since beliefs like having intercourse with a virgin cures AIDS going around, things happen.

.

kinda makes sense though Davros-

you ain't gonna catch AIDS from a virgin.

unless she's an haemophiliac.

and you don't get female haemophiliacs.....

Well, you won't catch AIDS from a virgin, but I think Davros is referring to the myth that if you have AIDS you can be cured by having sex with a virgin - this has been a prevalent problem in some African communities and led to rapes and innocents getting AIDS from the rapists.

Would the outcome be any better than it currently is if it was? That's the litmus test isn't it.

Sadly, I'm not sure if it'd be better or not.

Once it gets into territory held by Boko Haram or other terrorist groups there might not be much they can do to stop it if they can anyway.

At first they were claiming they would have it under control in 3 months. Then 3 months later they would say the same thing again. Now they are claiming 6 months. Bet they don't get it under control in 6 months either. This is where an uneducated population will get you.

I doubt you would have people here attacking Ebola clinics and patients, wouldn't think the health care system was giving it to us so I don't think it would ever get as bad as it is in Africa. The only thing that would allow it to spread here is the fact many Americans don't have healthcare and put off going to the doctor. Or someone that has it has a job that requires you to work sick like in a fast food restaurant.

Let them die in their own stupidity then!

It may come to that.

Here's an interesting read.

In still air, 3-mcm particles can take up to an hour to settle. With air currents, these and smaller particles can be transported considerable distances before they are deposited on a surface.

There is also some experimental evidence that Ebola and other filoviruses can be transmitted by the aerosol route. Jaax et al24 reported the unexpected death of two rhesus monkeys housed approximately 3 meters from monkeys infected with Ebola virus, concluding that respiratory or eye exposure to aerosols was the only possible explanation.

Zaire Ebola viruses have also been transmitted in the absence of direct contact among pigs25 and from pigs to non-human primates,26 which experienced lung involvement in infection. Persons with no known direct contact with Ebola virus disease patients or their bodily fluids have become infected.12
