Besides agreeing with Simbi above: The only way to change things is to make people legally responsible for their guns and the damage they cause. No matter if they did it themselves or not.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Ive come to the conclusion that you cant stop a criminal from getting their hands on a weapon if they want one. By setting up tighter regulations it will only make it harder for those that are resposible citizens to obtain firearms for legal purposes.

Just sayin... the term militia pops up elsewhere too..

Amendment V of the Bill of Rights

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

Section 8 of Article I of the Constitution

To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;

To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress;

Section 2 of Article II of the Constitution

The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States; he may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any Subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices, and he shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.

From wiki:

The reserve militia or unorganized militia, also created by the Militia Act of 1903 which presently consist of every able-bodied man of at least 17 and under 45 years of age who are not members of the National Guard or Naval Militia.

And where is the well organized part (apart from the fact the fact that the above was not created to arm citizens but to draft them to military service)?

Plus one. In fact, the president of the NRA strongly believes this latest elementary school horror in Connecticut could have been mitigated if all the kids were properly armed and trained to shoot back.

But then, he's an asswipe.

Just heard that it might change for people who have mental problems

I wonder what the definition for 'mental problems' will be? And more to the point: how will that be enforced?

Lol, I suppose that's true. I just find it interesting when you string all the bits of militia together... Sounds more like the passages are talking about police. I know that's probably just me looking at it funny, but if you replace the word militia with police.. I know, I'm odd.

maybe not the kids but if the teachers were armed and knew how to use them how far would this dumb-ass have made it?

Blame the guns all you want there are millions of guns that will never kill a person. It's not the guns go to israel and see how many mass shootings they have. if you tried to pull this off in israel you would just end up getting shot it is a heavily armed and trained populance.

the way I see it the media is the biggest problem we have in this country. this dumb-ass that did the shooting will get his mug plastered all over the TV for the next god knows how long and the victims will only get a wimper.

the only reason these sickos do this is for attention and the media is more than happy to oblige. how about if they just refer to the shooter as dumb-ass from here on out don't give a name or indication of who he was. let's try that for a while everytime there is a shooting we glorify the victims and sweep the perp under the rug.

The problem there is that "if the rabbit would not have stopped to **** he would have caught the rabbit".

But maybe that is the best to solve this weapon craziness once and for all: Arm all first graders and make it mandatory to bring the gun to class!

Seriously? This guy was carrying a .223 cal semi-automatic assault rifle. That's essentially a weed-whacker for human flesh. Miss Betty, 3rd grade teacher, fumbling in her purse for her .32 pistol would have had six .223 slugs in her body before she even hit the floor.

Don't blame the guns...blame the gun industry who make sure every gap-toothed half-wit with two nickels to rub together has enough fire-power to take out 30 people in 10 minutes when life gets a little tough.

Viewing things from this side of the 'pond'(UK), it seems clear to me that US citizens are prepared to put up with this kind of occurrence once in a while, just as long as they all get to keep their guns.

What do you mean by 'legal purposes'? Why shouldn't it be 'hard' to obtain a firearm?

And therein lies the problem it is not the gap-toothed half-wits that are doing these shootings. let's see Colorado shooter had a college education, Virginia-Tech well he was in college. so what is your point miss betty third grade teacher was not the only resposible adult in the building or the only one to take a bullet if just one of the adult victims would of been armed and trained to use it the outcome would of been different. but that was not my main point I said the Media needs to shoulder some of the blame for the mass-shootings. the idiots that do this stuff are looking for attention and the media provides it

Funny fact, no US Citizen has the right to own a firearm. The second admendment apears to be directed towards members of the National Guard or the Army Reserve (both of which can be considered Well Regulated and Organized Militias.
