i have noticed a trend on here in the week or so i have been reading this forum it seem you have a high percentage of "non-believers" now myself dont believe in a "god" but im open to the idea. so my question is why are so many of you so angry about religion on here (mostly christian) seems like you guys are more judgmental then the religious wackos you bash.

i made this thread because of another and i didnt want to derail Lrak's. thx for listening!!!

This is why... lol

Seriously though...

It's not just on here, look at the summer news reports. So much awful things going on this year. I personally think it's the economy and all the stress etc, brings out anger and hate and in certain unstable people we get these messed up news stories.

This should be good. I was surprised the Bible got such a bashing, I had the notion it was a fairly easy religion.

I suppose you have to look at something from different angles to get the big picture.

Wishing you peace, love and happiness, brother/sister.

I don't think anyone is angry about it. I know I, and others, simply point out the absurdity of such silly, simple beliefs.

I expect that the more angry among the Atheist community will argue that organised religion (by which they mean Christianity and Islam) has been responsible for wars & oppression & so on & so forth for thousands of years, that seems to be the usual justification for the anger that i do very much agree is very often seen, often from those who insist most loudly that they're rational and logical and unsuperstitious and all the rest of it. This is, of course, to overlook the fact that the polytheistic cultures of old were not exactly noted for being unviersally peace-loving and harmonious, and that by a very long way the most bloodthirsty regimes of the last century have tended to be those that are either officially atheist or (e.g. nazi Germany) were a kind of made-up mixture of cod-paganism.
"you guys are more judgmental then the religious wackos you bash" seems avery astute observation to me. Yes, ok, I say to the furious atheists, we know that you're rational and logical and free from ancient superstitious and all the rest of it; but do you have to keep going on about it all the time? And the funniest thing is that they'll invariably keep on about how "religion is always being rammed down their Throats".

ok anger might be the wrong word but you have to admit it is kinda childish to be pointing and laughing at someones religion.

To me it's not necessarily bashing religion. It's when religion is used as an acceptable excuse to do things that would otherwise be outright condemned. Plus, it's when religious people want everyone to follow their religion to the letter, even parts that are no longer considered valid. And of course, there's the sentiment 'you're all going to hell to suffer for eternity... but god loves everyone'.

Sometimes when I read posts that are bashing religion I think don't you know atheists are guilty of the same things you accuse religious people of doing.  Sometimes atheists suddenly get religion when its convenient like when going to court then the onlookers say what's wrong with religious people.

isn't it just as much those who believe that their political system should be imposed on everyone that are bit as evangelical (often at the point of a Gun) as those who believe that their religion should be imposed on everyone? Should their political beliefs be attacked and criticised as much as the religious beliefs that people use as an excuse?

now when you say "you're all going to hell to suffer for eternity... but god loves everyone'. you ar applying god to the same morals as humans who knows maybe he does still love you but its time for a time-out. we just cant know. and you guys are doing the same thing as the people pushing their belief down your throat by calling them out. i personally dont see anything wrong with people coming to my house to try and convert me they think they can help me and they dont want me to "burn in hell" who would be and at someone for trying to stop torture :D. idk the whole thing seems silly to me i guess :P no offense man.

I'm willing to believe in the possibility of a creator god, but religion jsut seems rather... 'silly'. It's not the same to call the out on it (that's a tactic they often stoop to). If they are disrespecting another human being, then it should totally be called on. Those people act like bullies and calling them out is often the only way to get them to stop.

Eternal torture often seems preferable to spending eternity with the faithful.

Example: I'd rather spend eternity in hell, then eternity with the westboro baptist church. Sometimes believers just seem so insane that spending time with them would be worse than torture.
