I agree that it is obviously the price to be paid for higher tech that now can make the individual as dangerous as an army of thousands were in the past.

Celumnaz brings up another good point. No president could do it on his own. The laws of hte U.S. have to go through the Congress, then the Supreme Court. All these people hvae to be in favor of the new law. (In the case of Congress, a majority).

I don't know that it would be possible to get all these different people to openly and willing agree on any one thing at any one time. But, if you could get a little here now. Lose this freedom for safety. Then a little there later. I don't mind if they're watching, I'm not doing anything wrong.  Let's set up an oraganisation to handle this for us. They need to be able to do this to catch terrorists. No rush, we've got time. Let's give them a little more leeway act without our oversight. Eventually something congeals. And by then, you're in it and deep.

What about all that stuff that Wal-Mart is on the verge of doing with RFiD tags? Who cares, it's just a company. It'll help them develop items that I might want to buy. True, now what happens when someone takes over the government and nationalizes all the big businesses? All that info that Wally-world has on you is now in the hands of someone else, maybe someone evil. They now have a record of you buying shotgun shells, you must be a troublemaker. Then you wake up "missing". You have been effectively "disappeared".

actually Bushco has already done if without asking congress.......... wiretapping without FISA warrants before 911 even.  He felt no need to let Congress or the Courts know.  and instead of going to jail enacted a 'get out of jail ' free pass for himself by making all such illegal acts 'legal' retroactively. which is still being argued.

as for listening ? of course they are.  and yet not one terrorist arrest because of it . not one.

NSA Domestic Surveillance Began 7 Months Before 9/11, Convicted Qwest CEO Claims
By Ryan Singel EmailOctober 11, 2007 | 7:20:59 PMCategories: NSA

follow qwest down the rabbit holeDid the NSA's massive call records database program pre-date the terrorist attacks of 9/11?

That startling allegation is in court documents released this week which show that former Qwest CEO Joseph Nacchio -- the head of the only company known to have turned down the NSA's requests for Americans' phone records -- tried, unsuccessfully, to argue just that in his defense against insider trading charges.

Nacchio was sentenced to 6 years in prison in 2007 after being found guilty of illegally selling shares based on insider information that the company's fortunes were declining.  Nacchio unsuccessfully attempted to defend himself by arguing that he actually expected Qwest's 2001 earnings to be higher because of secret NSA contracts, which, he contends, were denied by the NSA after he declined in a February 27, 2001 meeting to give the NSA customer calling records, court documents released this week show.

AT&T, Verizon and Bellsouth all agreed to turn over call records to an NSA database, according to reporting in the USA Today in 2006. At that time, Nacchio's lawyer publicly stated that Nacchio declined to participate until served with a proper legal order.

The government has never confirmed or denied the existence of the program, but is trying to win legal immunity for telecoms being sued for their alleged participation in the call records program and the government's warrantless wiretapping of Americans. Turning over customer records to anyone, including the government, without proper legal orders violates federal privacy laws.

now with this case - they have proof of illegal wiretapping. eventually if justice is fair and honest , bushco will be in jail.

But doesn't the Patriot Act allow "them" to get a secret court order (i.e. without what tradition would consider due process) and just arrest you without a real charge?
"They" have been watching "us" since the beginning of time - or at least since the Roman Empire. It's just that now "they've" got satellites, traffic monitor cameras, and cameras all over the damn place (publicly acknowledged in a place like London), but probably existing and not publicly acknowledged in a place like D.C. or any other major American metropolis...

Hmm, I suppose if they are monitoring EVERYONE then when they catch someone doing something wrong it's not THAT illegal since the were not just watching/out to get you...they were watching everyone....

Kind of like random drug tests....so to speak

Yep,and I heard they're trying to pass a bill to make it so they have immunity. So even if the companys spy on you, there would be nothing you can do about it.This has actually been going on before 9-11.

WOW if these words are correct they must be set up across the road from my House. As at least once a day I use some of these words while chatting to ppl about who the Govt Assasinated, Who set up a false flag op, etc etc.BU

BUT because Im not actually doing anything to be violent to the govt or its employees, I hope they take a view on it and realise I'm just a person who sees how corrupt the world is, and they ARE allowing Rothschilds bankers to run the world as they are all so afraid of upsetting them as have seen what happens when a politician even tries to go against them! See JFK, RFK, John Lennon, Pope John Paul 2nd, Martin Luther....do you need me to go on....lol.

I saw a 2 hour Documentary last night called "The Clinton Chronicles", please watch it and tell your friends, this man is an Evil and Criminal man who can deal $100s of Millions of Coke per month and get away with it. He even had many ppl killed for getting too close, plus 2 young boys camping saw the drug drop and were tortured and killed before being laid onto train tracks, HIS Coroner did the autopsys and said the boys fell asleep on the tracks....His mother had a 2nd opinion after many obstacles put in her way, and found out her son was tortured/stabbed before being put onto the tracks to hide the evidence of murder. These ppl make me sick, as they would kill any one of our children just to keep doing their crimes, hideous demonic ppl. :gun: :tu:

Leaving aside the gibbering paranoia about the "Mark of the Beast" and all that, you have to consider the practical issues. Assuming that every email in the world is automatically monitored and scanned for key-words, how many emails must there be that contain those words, given that "gun" and "bomb" aren't exactly uncommon, and terrorism is one of the hottest topics there currently is? There must be about a million flagged emails for every one a human FBI agent actually reads.

Consider also that about 99.9999% of emails or posts discussing in alarming detail the specifics of killing a lot of people with various types of gun are talking about games. Obviously, just by typing the words "fertilizer bomb" I've created a tiny little red flag somewhere, But for there to be any chance of a human being actually checking it out, I'd have to go into so much detail on that subject that it seemed reasonable to assume that I might be trying to make one. Even then, they're only going to catch idiots who google things like "how to be a terrorist and make bombs", and discuss their progress online in great detail. Any real terrorist smart enough to say "bunny rabbit" when he means "anthrax bomb" is perfectly safe, Unfortunately, he's also probably the kind of terrorist smart enough to build a bomb that may actually go off at the right time and kill somebody other than himself.

So, basically, now matter how closely they monitor everything, it's physically impossible for them to read anything like all of it. Or even more than the tiniest fraction. Imagine a bunch of FBI agents being ordered to read the entire internet because some of it's bound to be illegal and subversive - how many agents would there have to be?

i wouldn't worry, i seriously doubt their ability to properly use that much data, gvmt showed on numerous occasions, they can't do sh..t right.
i would worry a lot more about that data being misused,
