Owlscrying Posted October 1, 2007 #1 Share Posted October 1, 2007 Japanese scientists are claiming a breakthrough after breeding the world's first see-through frogs. The transparent frogs are useful for research because the internal organs and blood vessels can be observed without dissecting the animal. Amphibian specialists say the genetic manipulation has resulted in the world's first transparent four-legged animal. The researchers were able to see how the organs grew in the body as they transformed into frogs. go

The Little Raven Posted October 5, 2007 #6 Share Posted October 5, 2007 (edited) ... The animal is albino, isn't it? So technically, they didn't really accomplish much. The frog itself looks rather... deformed. I can't put my finger quite on it, but the legs and eyes of the animal look a bit "off" to me. What species is it? I doubt that humans would have transparent skin at any time soon. There's been enough of an effort just to convince the public that positive genetic manipulation is good in concept, and I'm not talking about the idea of "choose your hair/eye color" babies. Besides, if I am correct and the frog is simply albino, that would probably never happen - although a frog's skin is rather thin (in some species of frogs that are of a paler shade, you can sometimes even see some of the organs!) human skin is much thicker.
