You must have no faith in humanity. I have played Pokemon for years, Never have I thought about putting my pets in an enclosed space and organizing fights for them. People just aren't that effing stupid! PETA should be focusing on the animals being abused around the world Right Now, not the ones who May Be harmed in the future if everyone goes insane and believes animals are the same as Pokemon.

PETA is just a group of vegetarians and "animal friends" that have nothing better to do that criticize anything that's got to do with animals. Sooner or later they will even tell us that experimentation with bacteria is a form of "animal abuse". Have these idiots ever thought that the vegetables and fruit they love so much to eat(instead of juicy, delicious steaks) are living organims and can feel "pain"(or some form of pain anyway)?

You're comparing the intelligence of a fighting dog with that of a fictional Pokemon, however. Again, if dogs were of human intelligence, and could communicate with us, and told us that they wanted to be "the strongest dog in the world!" or something to that effect... Eh? I mean, again, you're acting as though Pokemon are comparable to real-world animals. They aren't. At all. Tell me, do you classify martial arts as forms of human torture, or pet ownership as abuse? Yes, in real life, animals fight for survival; would you prefer then if Pokemon portrayed an accurate picture, of animals (again, Pokemon aren't animals to begin with) fighting, killing, and eating each other? As I understand it, Pokemon don't ever die, they merely "faint". But if you could talk to your dog, and it were of near-human or human-equivalent intelligence, would it not be acceptable to form a bond of friendship with it? Make friends? And if there were indeed a sort of sport, not unlike the simple sparring matches of karate or judo, in which these intelligent dogs elected to fight one another, under the tutelage of its human owner/friend, would it not be acceptable to allow the dogs this pleasure? Again, if you fight against what Pokemon is portraying, you might as well be fighting sport in general. The fact that non-human, fictional creatures are involved is beside the point.

If you notice Ouija, I have an example of a game series that I played at much earlier ages. Video games have been a part of my entire life & yet I never felt the need to reenact them in the real world. Pokemon was not an original concept either. The idea of catching wild life & using it for your own personal gain is not a new idea in media. People don't say " you shouldn't admire van Gogh because you'll want to chip your ear off if you do."

To say a 13 year old is not as impressionable as a 5 year old is beyond ridiculous. When was last timeyou heard of high school/college student blasting away at their fellow student body? Now when was the last time you heard of an elementary student doing the same? Am I making any sense here?

I played grand theft auto since the first 3 on playstation 1 (London 1969 expansion for those questioning my count).  I never had the urge to pick up a prostitute & hack her up with a chainsaw to get my money back. I grew up in Richmond VA where dog fighting is very common but I never took part in the act. Who did? Individuals that grew up being taught by their parents & role models that this was okay & even right.

PETA is really doing anything that they can to be noticed these days. What could've been an incredible organization, has so easily become a media circus sideshow. They well find anything that they can to appear on TV. If I'm wrong, then why did they sponsor pornography that stars only vegetarians/vegans? Who's watching an adult film & thinking, "I sure hope these 'models'aren't eating meat because if they are...well I'm just gonna stop what I'm doing." PETA is a joke beyond jokes. It's a joke without a funny punchline. PETA makes me want to by 50 fur coats & dance around a petting zoo while chanting in a sing song voice, "I'm wearing your mother! I'm wearing your mother!" Trying to guilt people into thinking your way is no way to raise eyebrows. It actually drives people into the opposite direction. People don't like being treated like morons & that's what PETA does to everyone that isn't part of the in-crowd.

I'd also like to point out through out the Pokemon franchise the players and main characters often come across "rivals" who treat Pokemon as nothing but objects and say "Who cares about Pokemon feelings. I only want strong Pokemon " And throughout the entire game you pretty much prove to them the best thing to do is to treat Pokemon right and treating Pokemon as objects is the wrong thing to do.

The main character in the show does the same thing. He usually has a rival whose a jerk for Pokemon and the main character is always like "You should not treat your Pokemon like that!"

And recently while my brother was watching Pokemon(because I totally don't watch that) the main character actually saved a Pokemon(chimchar) from an abusive owner

Throughout the entire world of Pokemon you are pretty much nothing but encouraged to love and treat them right. Lots of Pokemon actually require a high friendship level to evolve.

They encourage it so much friendship is an actual mechanic in the games. Its a countable number. Seriously.

Pokemon also get free healthcare everywhere. No matter what. Seriously. No one will ever deny a Pokemon medical treatment. Ever.

Okay, I've been looking at the PETA sites and I see why there is so much angst provoked by the organisation: I don't know who is in charge of the American branch, but it is very, very different to the branch here in the UK! There is no mention of Pokemon here. If you type it in the search window nothing comes up. Makes me wonder if there's actually someone within the American organisation trying to sabotage it !

Watching the PETA Pokemon video, I think they're simply trying to draw youngsters in by their love of Pokemon and then present them with some of PETA's policies.

Okay will now I feel bad for jumping your "S word" Ouija. PETA really is a joke here. They use guilt & scare tactics to, on all reality, get more celebrity spokespeople. I'll check out the UK site to see if they're what PETA here should be. It should be about the prevention of animal cruelty & neglect. Not the demoralizing of people who choose to still eat meat, milk cows, harvest honey or what have you. I do think it's wrong to abuse livestock just because they're going to a meal in the future, after all it's true what California says "happy cows, make better beef" or something like that.
