Andy Batty, 48, was helping his daughter Catherine, 17, ride her pony Bess when the insect bit him and he collapsed in agony.

The 6ft engineer went into anaphylactic shock, and died before paramedics could get to the scene.

Experts have said that for the common bite to kill is practically unheard of, and Mr Batty must have been genetically predisposed to suffering such a reaction.

Too bad no one had an Epi-pen handy. I have one in my house, car, and purse (I'm very allergic to bee stings).
