Illinois Senator Mark Kirk has wrestled with lots of devilish political issues during his 28-year political career, but after suffering a stroke one year ago, he claims he had a very different experience: an encounter with angels.

The Republican senator was recovering from a massive stroke in the right side of his brain at Northwestern Memorial Hospital's Intensive Care Unit in Chicago when Kirk said three angels visited him, the Chicago area's Daily Herald reported.

Standing at the foot of his hospital bed, the angels, Kirk said, asked him, "You want to come with us?"

From the rest of the article:

Quote

Despite their mystical associations, many researchers believe NDEs may have a rational explanation based on the science of brain functioning. Out-of-body experiences, during which people believe they're floating above their physical body, are common during NDEs and can be triggered by stimulating the brain's right temporoparietal junction, according to a study detailed in 2005 in the journal The Neuroscientist. [Top 10 Unexplained Phenomena]

Another common vision during NDEs is the sensation of moving toward a bright light, which also occurs in up to 25 percent of heart attack survivors. The cause in both cases, researchers now believe, may be a lack of oxygen to the brain: Euphoria, a sense of peace and moving "toward the light" are common symptoms of oxygen deprivation, according to a 2010 study published in the medical journal Critical Care.

That should stir a few people up.... :)

I'm a bit stirred up by the idea of a bigoted (IMO) Senator that had a massive stroke that affected the right side of his brain and now is obviously suffering from hallucinations IS STILL A SITTING SENATOR!!

I'm not saying your not going to hallucinate if deprived of oxygen or under other circumstances but some of the people that had the out of body experience have been able to tell people what was going on in the room even though they were out cold.

I saw a ghost here in my house one day so I do believe there is an afterlife.  It was the middle of the day and I was wide awake.

I have a hunch that his "visions" were more medically related than spiritually.

I'm surprised half of them are still senators with the crap they spew. At least all the pro-rape* candidates got thrown out.

*I know they were not actually pro-rape, they just hate women.

A few years ago, when I was suffering from depression, I saw a few ghost in my old house.. Sometimes I would hear things and not see anything, that is what spooked me most ...  I no longer live at that house, but it was a creepy experience

To add.. My husband was freaked out once, as he pulled up in his car, parking outside the house.. .As he walked down our path, he looked over at the living room window, the blinds were closed... He was wondering if I was still up..  Suddenly he saw the blinds being slowly pulled down, like someone was peeking out using their fingers to quietly open the blinds making a peek hole  but he couldn't see a shadow..... Then the blind slowly went back to where it was...He thought it was me peeking out to see if it was him coming up, with hearing our car pull up outside........  He came into the house, I was at the other side of the room dozing off in front of the TV..He asked was I at the window, peeking out through the blinds?  I said no, in fact you just woke me as you came in ...why? ...........He then went white as he told me what he had saw... I was a bit shocked, because I felt nothing in the room at the time.. I later laughed it off..  I was ever so glad to finally get to move out of there and into our new home over a year ago.. I haven't heard or saw anything in this new home

I must admit though, it does make you wonder more about the afterlife..

This is the same guy who has made these disputed comments about his life

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Kirk

He later stated in speeches and interviews that he had been a nursery and middle school teacher. For example, Kirk claimed in a speech to the Illinois Education Association, "As a former nursery school and middle school teacher, I know some of what it takes to bring order to class." However, a member of the Forest Home Chapel said, "He was never, ever considered a teacher [at the nursery school]."[12]

Kirk corrected claims he had made about being awarded "Navy Intelligence Officer of the Year" after it was brought to the media's attention by his Democratic opponent, Alexi Giannoulias.[21] In a 2002 House committee hearing recorded by C-Span, Kirk said, "I was the Navy's Intelligence Officer of the Year," an achievement he said gave him special qualifications to discuss national security spending.[20] However, in May 2010, the Washington Post reported that Kirk's claim to having been named the Navy's “Intelligence Officer of the Year” was erroneous.[22] The National Military Intelligence Association gave the Vice Admiral Rufus L. Taylor Award to the entire Intelligence Division Electronic Attack Wing at Aviano.

Controversy regarding Kirk's military record continued as other statements surfaced, such as Kirk stating “the last time I was in Iraq I was in uniform, flying at 20,000 feet, and the Iraqi Air Defense network was shooting at us.” Kirk has since clarified his previous statements, admitting that he was never fired on as he flew over Iraq or Kosovo.[25] “I simply misremembered [sic] it wrong,” he told The Chicago Sun-Times, referring to his military record.[26]

It seems every time something "special" aka: being a teacher of little kids, a war hero and "Naval Intelligence Officer of the Year" happens it turns out he has misremembered on some level and has had to go back and correct it.

I think he is a little safer on this one though, can't remember the last time an Angel spoke up and corrected a human for lying about their interractions :innocent:

"I warn you, whoever you are, oh you who wish to probe the arcanes of nature, if you do not find within yourself that which you seek, neither shall you find it outside.
If you ignore the excellencies of your own house, how do you intend to find other excellencies?
In you is hidden the treasure of treasures, Oh man, know thyself and you shall know the Universe and the Gods."

Lol - I laughed out loud at that.  I was reading it on my phone in my friend's car and they looked at me funny.  Kind of reminds me of ex-President Bush's comment where he stated "they misunderestimated me" :w00t:

welp I've read the OP's post and also the others here. Seems like the senator's reputation is not that good. So who knows if he is telling the truth on this one.

Speculating on Speculation. Imagine That!

It's good to have some skepticism so you won't be gullible & naïve. But to much skepticism
can make you narrow minded to all possibilities no matter how unconventional.
