questionmark Posted September 4, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 4, 2007 MURDER, HE WROTE Author Accused of Homicide He Described in Novel A Polish author is on trial for murder because he wrote a novel that bore startling parallels to a real-life slaying. He claims that the work was inspired by media reports about the killing. Absolute realism is a must in the genre of crime fiction. Novelists are often inspired by real-life incidents, while fans demand plots to conform to real police procedure. But for Polish writer Krystian Bala, his art imitated life just a little too closely -- he is now on trial for murder after prosecutors decided his 2003 novel "Amok" bore too many similarities to a real case. A court in the Polish city of Wroclaw will decide Wednesday if Bala, a 36-year-old travel writer and photographer, is guilty of the 2000 murder of a man identified only as Dariusz Janiszewski. The prosecutor is demanding a 25-year jail sentence. Public prosecutors claim Bala kidnapped Janiszewski, reportedly a well-liked businessman, from his office, tortured him and murdered him. The tied-up body was thrown into the Oder river and later washed up on the banks of the river near Wroclaw. swtp Posted September 5, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 5, 2007 Mabey he wrote about information on the case that hadn,t been released, but that could also be chalked up to a writers imagination and the ability to figure out the course of events with the available information! Isn,t that how real detectives work it out also? And unless this guy is really stupid or wants to be caught, why would he write out the details of a crime he commited when he would know certain details hadn,t been made public? Just sounds weird to me!

goalienan Posted September 5, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 5, 2007 (edited) How many criminals are caught by opening their mouths about a crime, when something they said was never in the media...Strange story, especially how he admitted to it and then retracted his statement....although I have read about police harrassment in some of these cases...Hope theres some sort of a follow up on the story...Good read...
