Transgender Homecoming Queen:

In a video posted on her YouTube account Saturday, Cassidy Lynn Campbell said that earning the title of homecoming queen was supposed to be "so monumental and memorable." But the "ignorant" and "negative" backlash that followed her win had turned a bright day dark.

"I'm always judged and I'm always looked down upon and I'm always made fun of," she said. "Sometimes, I wonder, is it even worth it?"

She says it herself in her youtube video and in the article -

My goal isn't to be famous, it's to open people's eyes to the world around them, to teach people to be open minded and to rethink social norms.

"Social norms" are not [yet] as she wants them to be. She should expect to struggle, to be hurt - that is all part of her 'mission'. It would be great if the reality was different, but it isn't. It will take her, and many more like her, before transgendered people are accepted as part of 'normal' society.

If you're different there are going to be people who aren't going to like you. This is just the way it is, you can't force acceptance. It takes a great deal of time for social norms to change.
