WASHINGTON – President-elect Obama plans to use his executive powers to make an immediate impact when he takes office, perhaps reversing Bush administration policies on stem cell research and domestic drilling for oil and natural gas

An EU minister was on the news saying Obama is going to use his executive powers for an immediate change in US world trade policy, which could lead to a bust up with the EU. something about the US taxing imported goods. The minister warned the US not to take on the EU in a trading war.

He doesn't need legislation to reverse Bush's executive orders.

An EU minister was on the news saying Obama is going to use his executive powers for an immediate change in US world trade policy, which could lead to a bust up with the EU. something about the US taxing imported goods. The minister warned the US not to take on the EU in a trading war.

Well, from what I saw in Germany, there was a horrendous tax placed on american imports. I find this unfair.

I'm all for it if it helps make american companies more competitive.

That you are quick to bash obama for EO's before you knew how many bush did...that you never once complained about a single bush executive order, yet at the hint of one from obama you acted like he was trying to act like a king. Basically, the hypocrisy. The double standard. I dont like EO's. But I spoke up when bush was issuing them like pizza coupons, just like I spoke up when bush signed more "signing statement" than anyone else in town. Bush has taken advantage of the system and yet so few call him on it.

So is it OK that bush offered so many? is it only ok that bush does that? Where do you stand on that?

I'm all for stem cell research, wich I believe he will change. I'd also like to see off shore drilling, which I beleive he will kill, so eh, what ya gonna do?

Difference is most of Bush's EOs (as well as Clintons I will say) had to do with internal affairs. Very few sweeping national public policy changes were made by EO.

That's why we have a legislature, to propose changes and vote on them to represent the will of the people (hopefully) and to hold all the reps accountable for their positions.
