Ozmeister Posted May 21, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 21, 2004 An impact site of the nth Western Australia coast has been dated to around the time of the great Permian extinction, 251 million years ago. Previous studies in the 70's identified the rocks as being volcanic but later studies confirmed it's impact origin (due to the presence of shocked quartz, amongst other evidence). Seismic and gravity data show the formation, called the Bedout High, is about 120 miles across.....about the same size as the famous dinosaur killer at Chicxulub in Mexico.
