choices Posted January 18, 2005 #1 Share Posted January 18, 2005 ---The physical properties of compounds reflect the nature of the interactions amoung it's molecules. These interactions are determined by the structure of the molecule, including the constituent atoms and the distances and angles between them--- Any Opnions Thank you

aquatus1 Posted January 19, 2005 #3 Share Posted January 19, 2005 Yeeesss...and no. Certain aspecs of the macro compound are reflected directly. For instance, in geology, knowing in which manner the rock gives you a good idea of its molecular arrangement; the neater the split, the more equilateral the arrangement. However, one must be careful. There is a thing called the Fallacy of Composition. This is a logical fallacy which states that one cannot assume that the properties of the individual components are accurately reflected by the entire component. For instance, sodium and chloride, individually, are deadly poisons. However, as a compound, sodium chloride is essential to life (table salt). Similarly, as many supporters of psychic powers like to do, quantum vibrations, being a property of atoms, cannot be translated into physical vibrations of a macro object, such as a rock. Generally speaking, the properties of individual quantum molecules are governed by the laws of thermodynamics, and their properties are not reflected by the compound. The interactions of the molecules, however, do usually translate into physical properties, as you said.
choices Posted January 19, 2005 Author #4 Share Posted January 19, 2005 I like you angle Aquatus....Do you think this quote can be used to understand the mind and how the energy of the mind reflects to us our thoughts? May it is a long shot but I would love to hear your opinion Thank you Come on now Antares...couldn't you even pretend to argue a little...are you sure you completly agree? It is much more fun to argue...even if just for the sake ha ha just teasing you...glad to see your opinion. Thank you
antares Posted January 19, 2005 #5 Share Posted January 19, 2005 Come on now Antares...couldn't you even pretend to argue a little...are you sure you completly agree? wink2.gif It is much more fun to argue...even if just for the sake ha ha just teasing you...glad to see your opinion. Alright, alright Well, let me see... I think Aquatus said it all... Take for instance the water molecule - it is a very special molecule indeed, the hydrogen atoms are attached to the oxygen atom in a very unique way. One side of the water molecule has a negative charge and the other has a positive charge. This polarity causes molecules of water to be attracted to each other forming strong molecular bonds. But when water freezes its molecules arrange themselves in a distinct way... So the special arrangement causes its volume to expand and its density to decrease. That's why ice floats on top of liquid water. So definitely, interactions and rearrangement of molecules do lead to change of the physical properties... I am not sure how can you extend this definition to the energy of human mind and our thoughts... The only analogy I can make is that when you "charge" yourself with a positive energy you have good thoughts... I know that some Tao exercises focus on rearranging of your "chi" energy along the meridians of the body and create equilibrium in case there is imbalalnce... choices Posted January 21, 2005 Author #6 Share Posted January 21, 2005 Good one Antares...Now instead of thinking of water as being wet I feel like I only become wet when in contact with it....hope you get what I mean by that...it is neat to think of water from an elemental level and not as our life source. I like your idea that if we are charged with positive we would have good thoughts...What do you think of if we have positive thoughts we have positive physical and mental health? What do you think Aquatus? Thank you
leadbelly Posted January 21, 2005 #7 Share Posted January 21, 2005 (edited) Just a bit of silly- J.S. Bach composed his works at a time when 'physical humours' were considered the source of well being. It was thought that the blood and breath amounted to vapours of health. Keeping them in good spirits was essential, and music was the best thing to elevate one's physical constitution! Can't go wrong. And you know, years ago, it was the thing to do to buy a negative ion generator. It was thought that a build-up of positive ions on the body surface led to depressed energy levels. Heck- listen to a little music in the shower! Safely, though! J S Bach - Sheep May Safely Graze Edited January 21, 2005 by leadbelly
antares Posted January 21, 2005 #8 Share Posted January 21, 2005 I like your idea that if we are charged with positive we would have good thoughts...What do you think of if we have positive thoughts we have positive physical and mental health? I think that positive thoughts definitely help you to achieve physical and mental health. Unfortunately when you have health problems sometimes it is very hard to be optimistic and happy. There is a very good book: "Mind as slayer, mind as healer" that describes in details how your own thoughts can make you sick or how positive thinking can actually heal you. So, mind is a powerful thing, we just need to use it in the right direction...
