stevewinn Posted May 30, 2015 #3 Share Posted May 30, 2015 People afraid of the sun these days? :s Marks and Spencer are taking advantage of the current situation to make money. Vitamin D has been in the Media lately and M&S are capitalising on that. with their Vitamin D bread. a gimmick for people to buy their bread. - from the link. M&S says a survey of 2,476 of its customers suggested they were concerned about not getting their recommended daily amount of vitamin D, with 78% saying they would welcome the enrichment of products. This concern was driven by a report quoted by Public Health England about the rise of Rickets amongst children. They blame the increasing number of hours Children are spending indoors watching TV or playing Computer games. Rickets was a problem in Victorian England. but cases are rare these days. Of those people in the M&S survey - its a clear over reaction from an uneducated public. The Vitamin D we actually need is Vitamin D3. and in the right ratio of 2:1 with Calcium - including zinc and magnesium for better absorption. The usable Vitamin D in the Bread will be wasted. they quote two slices of bread will provide 15% of your daily need. but the actual amount absorbed by the body will be a lot less. the cost of the small loaf of M&S bread is £1.50 whereas if people are really concerned, they could take a supplement such as Osteocare liquid. cost £3.99 but 90% of each 5ml of liquid is absorbed by the body. Its cheap than the M&S Bread in terms of quality and benefit. When you think your Skeleton is replaced or renewed every 14 years its wise to take such a supplement especially after the age of 35.
