Waspie_Dwarf Posted February 15, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 15, 2016 (edited) Planet Formation around Binary Star: ALMA reveals planet-forming potential of protoplanetary disk A detailed study of young stars and their surroundings has produced dramatic new evidence about how multiple-star systems form and how the dusty disks that are the raw material for planets grow around young stars. Teams of scientists used the National Science Foundation's Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) radio telescope to study nearly 100 newborn stars in a cloud of gas and dust about 750 light-years from Earth, in which new stars are forming.Images made from the study showed unprecedented detail of a number of the young stars, and are helping astronomers resolve important questions about how stars, binary stars, and planets get their starts. The astronomers presented their results to the American Astronomical Society's meeting in Kissimmee, Florida. Taun Posted February 15, 2016 #2 Share Posted February 15, 2016 Waspie... I've been meaning to ask you about something... I play a "space travel" game called "Elite: Dangerous"... In it they have included (supposedly) the entire galaxy as accurately as possible - obviously the planetary systems are fictionalized as to content, number of worlds etc... But they are very focused on orbital dynamics of the various worlds, etc, all measured in Light Seconds rather than kilometers... They have many multi-star systems and many have planets orbiting them My question: Have you seen or heard details of this game? And if so have you any comments on their general accuracy of multi-star systems?...
