Bird invasion brings real-life horror to City

Still Waters

Recommended Posts

Millions of birds have descended on a small Kentucky city this winter, fouling the landscape, scaring pets and raising the risk for disease in a real-life version of Alfred Hitchcock's horror film, The Birds.

The blackbirds and European starlings blacken the sky of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, before roosting at dusk, turn the landscape white with bird poop, and the disease they carry can kill a dog and sicken humans.

Time to get out the 410 shotgun and a few hundred boxes of high brass #8 shot and have some fun!

Some moron in the past wanted to bring every bird mentioned in shakespears sonnets to the new world (or some such nonsense) and without natural predators starlings are just out of control. A couple of years ago there were so many of them in Seattle that thier wieght was breaking the branches off of the trees that line the streets downdown and every morning you would see dozens of them on the ground. They do look cool when you see a large flock flying in unison but I doubt that makes it worth the impact they have on native species and the environment.
